How humble do you feel when you listen to this? I’m 75, struggled to get a BS over 10 years, with honors, because of learning issues, but worked for a company that believed in Education employees, Ford. Say what you want about the company, it had many faces but it exposed me highly intelligent people that helped be grow. Listening to this is still thrilling to see how the gifted ones get through. I managed highly intelligent people. It is a wonderful experience. Some require special treatment but you feel an obligation, almost parental to keep them moving ahead. When I was forced to leave the last company which was being fattened for sale by a “greed is good” CEO, I worried about my “all stars”.

Experiments to produce the building blocks of life always begin with unnaturally pure, concentrated reagents. These are purchased from laboratory supply shops and produced through sophisticated, intelligently designed processes. Where on a prebiotic Earth could you find gasses with no more than 10-parts-per-million impurity? And high Concentrations of nucleotides? Airgas, and other chemical suppliers from which the researchers obtained their materials, which was not around prebiotically!! Chemists achieve success by using manipulations and intelligence in their carefully guided experiments!

I firmly believe a politician yearns to be proven right, whereas a scientist yearns to be proven wrong. They want the debate, someone to build on their idea, make it better, take it in new directions. In this age of xenophobia and countries set against each other, to hear Dr Tyson speak lovingly and appreciatively about a Chinese telescope being bigger, badder and better really sums up what science means to me. It's a global effort. The ideal scientific world is borderless and united in the common aim to make tomorrow better than today.
@rilla64
@rilla64 2 жыл бұрын
@@bikkies if I understand you correctly. At least your first statement. Yes a true scientist, delivers a hypothesis based on facts. Good example of that would be Isaac Newton then Einstein. Somehow in today's era they have seem to have stopped science progression and want to tell us what is and what isn't possible. Personally science is the exact opposite of that it is trial and error. Without science we would have none of the things we have today. For the kids out there please believe you can do anything your mind is Limitless don't let them indoctrinate you. Base your theories on new ideas you can prove. And always learn from the past don't forget that if we all would learn from prior mistakes we will grow. Somehow history always repeats itself very frustrating what the world has come to nowadays

The one thing we humans have that significantly differentiates us from the rest of the animal kingdom is our big, advanced brain. Yet, so few people use their brains constructively. Neil DeGeasse Tyson is one of those few people I see on KZbin or on TV that always leaves me thinking more deeply or differently about a subject or just plain amazed at the wonders of our natural world. He didn’t want to talk about race here, but I’m glad he did because he once again presents a unique viewpoint presented in a way that forces us all to think intelligently about the subject instead of just making irrational, emotional, uneducated judgements. This man has a way of making people WANT to think harder, to use our brains in more intelligent and unique ways. Every time I hear him speak, I learn something new and that makes him very much worth listening to. The fact he decided long ago to become an educator is a gift to our society.

kenneth bransford yes it is far more accurate that a magic fairy poofed it out of the shit of believers! Thalidomide births is more proof that no God was involved and the natural assembly was disrupted by the wrong chemicals at the right time. Your hypothesis that atoms are not self assembling has no factual basis. Learn something about the Table of elements and how each element is made up of multiple atoms, how combining different elements to make chemical compounds is a normal process. Your simplistic assertion is a pathetic attempt at trying to show your lack.

As far as I know the reason for Bluescreens being used back in the day and Greenscreens nowadays is the way the image vreating components of a camera work: Film used silver salts that reacted to different wavelengths of light, the salts that dealt with blue light were smaller than the others and therefore you've had more information about edges in the blues and removing the blues to replace them with other things looked better. Nowadays digital image sensors have more green "receptors" than ones for blue and red, so now it's advantageous to use green onstead of blue.

Scientists hold advanced doctoral degrees associated with their fields of expertise. They study the natural world and universe using the scientific method to provide evidence of their theories. Engineers use some much of that data to build and create wonderful things. For example a bridge engineer will use physics when designing his load bearing bridge, however he is not a physicist.

First of all, I had no idea there was a new season of Cosmos-- I am totally going to watch it now. This conversation and video has had its intended effect! Second, NdGT is occasionally brilliant, none better. Often he is too loud, aggressive and a bullying for my liking. Bill Nye is one of the few people who can keep up with him and be a proper host. The tension between the two egos was entertaining in itself. The last 15 seconds was amazing where Nye asserts that he was the host, NdGT was the guest, was gracious to thank the host, and showed concern for the health of the audience. Fun video all around!
