Thank you for putting the torque spec for the lower intake manifold I have been searching for that spec for weeks I have the ford ranger with this motor in it and all it needs is that lower intake manifold gasket i did the job but I was told that is was 14 foot pounds and after putting it all back together i started it up was letting it warm up it was all going good then I taped the gas pedal and it started pouring coolant now i can do it right thanks again brother

Thank you so much for putting this video together, it is one of the best repair videos I have seen. I need to do this on a 93 explorer and feel a bit more confident in tackling the job now.

Torque specs are 25, 55 and finally 90 ftlbs. For those of you searching. Thought id help! Good job on the video. All you need is sockets in 10mm and 13mm, a 6 inch extension, deep 10mm socket, 17mm and 19mm wrench and a t55 torx male socket. That'll do ya.

You'll also need a 15mm socket or wrench for the rocker arms the drivers side exhaust mani can be a pain to get the 10 mm with deep socket ratchet had to take off the steering column bolt and had to heat it too. Had to heat a few if the bolts to be honest. Mine was also over torqued on the passenger side rocker arms and loosely torqued on the drivers side *shrugs* oh well. Got one more bolt to go for me then its back together after some cleaning

Great video. Thanks. I’m getting ready to change the intake manifold gaskets for the first time. This gave me a much clearer picture of what’s involved.

So was it the gasket, a cracked head, or a cracked block?? Got to chase an oil leak on my 97 and am hoping it is just the valve cover gasket where they cross over the valley. Nice to see what is in the way and what I can get away with leaving as the book just wants it all stripped. Thanks for the video. Very well done with good photography and detail work.

Thank you for your question. The customer brought this truck in after getting it an auction. When I pulled one of the vacuum hoses (can't remember which one), it had coolant in it. That pointed at a cracked head on the intake side. He paid for both heads, and of course, a new gasket. Problem was resolved with new head replacements. Best of luck!

thinking wasnt mated /shaved head/ block checked flatness- sanded/filed /streight edged with flashlight!!!!!!!! 30 yr old vehicle.. the bolts tend to pull up /rise the metal.. those areas NEED bluened /filed and constant flat edged ! fine Long file. can send off the head for cleaned ..new seals.. but i like do my own ! new bolts and use locktite blue 43

Will this be pretty much the same procedure for a 1990 4.0 v6? Or will specs be different enough to run into an issue while following along?

So beginner here, we tore ours down... theres coolant in the piston holes... how do we determine if its a cracked head, leakin gasket, etc????? Thanks for ANY suggestions

@chrisstokley7687 Жыл бұрын
yes and no.. few more wires and sencers ...91-95... and 96-2004.. i think... very similiar though... was 2 days... at 3 hr each day ... xtra 1 hr .. cleaned all serfaces and checked flat head.. and i also did new seals and lapped valves in ... need special spring head tool compressor pliers . ! can borrow auto zones
