Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

I’m only 4 minutes in and I have a feeling Nate’s dad is going to be so much better at this than Nate and Dusty were last time! He’s climbing those palm trees like a pro and the two sticks with ropes to get coconuts down was probably his idea. Such amazing parents ❤️

I recently watched your interview on The Unplanned Podcast. I enjoyed the entire interview, but there was one thing that impressed me the most. When they asked you which country you felt had the friendliest people, you mentioned the Kurds that you met in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. I recall in one of your earlier videos, Nate had jokingly asked you if you would like to visit the Middle Eastern countries ending in ‘-stan’, knowing it was outside of your comfort zone, and you fervently answered, “no thanks!’ Seeing how much you’ve grown through your journey and your unwavering respect for all people, while disregarding the vast cultural, political and religious differences from where you grew up, is just one of the reasons I adore and support your channel. You both are genuinely good people and are a rare, but perfect example of how social media influencers should act! God bless!

I just love Mom's Tennessee accent. As a woman of over 60 who tries to keep active but has had some health issues causing setbacks in the last few years, I am so happy and envious of seeing Nate's folks out there doing this. I just hope when my ordeals have eased I will be back out there with a pack on my back. Not in survival mode. Just a simple camping weekend. That is all I'm asking anymore. In the meantime, here is my inspiration.

You guys absolutely killed it. I've been watching "The Island" and not one of the groups ever covered all the bases on the first day. To be honest, they did have to trek to find a beach and try not to get lost. I've also not seen one with the innovation to make the coconut retrieval method so seamless. Nate's parents are amazing and raised a wonderful son. Stay safe and God bless.

I'm surprised you guys are doing the survivor thing again, but pleasantly so! In my part of the world, it's standard to learn how to survive in the woods; we all learn how it's done in middle school. The annual 7th-grade camping trip then the next year, the dreaded 8th-grade survival trip lol the only tools we can bring are whatever we can fit into one of the smaller-sized tin coffee cans; w/ fishing line wrapped around the outside and holes poked into the can itself so the bottom can be used as a cooking surface. Just place the fire on the ground, put the can upside down over the fire, with the bottom facing up, and as long as you have holes in the can to let the smoke out, the flat bottom heats up and becomes the cooktop. I can't help but think how much more fun it would've been w/o having to worry about the damn cold & rain lol I live in an Alaskan island town called Ketchikan, nicknamed the First City because it's usually the 1st city one comes to when traveling to Alaska by boat or plane. My island town is located in the middle of the Tongass National Rainforest, the largest national forest in the U.S. and it's a cold-ass rainforest; a temporal one, not a tropical one, so we're always wet around here. Owning lawn furniture is silly & pointless because if it's not water-proof it'll get ruined; and if it is, it's always going to be wet and no one wants to sit on a hard, wet surface. It doesn't stop raining long enough for anything to dry out outside.

Two times that Tom Hanks in the movie Cast Away popped in my head watching this. 1, was when you were drinking the coconut water and Tom talking in the movie about how coconut water is a natural laxative as he's going behind a bush, and 2 was when Kara started a fire and Tom was celebrating on the beach waving the burning palms around, singing "come on baby light my fire" and bragging to himself about making the fire, and I expected that scene to pop up after Kara was celebrating making her fire! lol! 😅

The thing you found at 2:16 is the electronic bits that hang off the bottom of a weather balloon. It collects weather data and then sends it back down to the ground via radio. Normally they're recovered and reused, but this one probably went farther than they expected and landed in the ocean.

Kara definitely deserves an award for going along with Nate's crazy ideas. Gotta say, fair play to Nate's parents for agreeing to take part. I definitely would not survive 😂 Great video as always 😎👍

I’m watching this in hospital with my sick 6 week old baby. I feel like I can relate, no toothbrush, 2 hours of sleep… no crabs or rats thankfully. Thanks for the distraction 😊
