The heater A/C control unit has blend door actuators, evaporator, and heater core. Remove a couple of bolts from the fire wall. 10mm bolts hold it together, remove the dash to access this. Flip it over to get the orientation right. On this case itself, fan blower, air inlet, blend door that opens and closes the valve. Recommend replaces all parts since it's hard to get to.
This blend door actuator is by your foot pedals; it controls your defrost and sends air out the sides to defrost windows. The other behind the glove box is pretty challenging, but can be removed without taking the whole unit out. You can tell if the blower motor resister goes out because you'll get only high or medium high fan speed. If you're going to pull the dash out I recommend replacing all the parts. It'll cost around $500 depending on where you live and cost of parts, but it's worth doing it all together.
A couple of fasteners 7mm need to be removed to get the cover off. The heater core is clipped in. Replace the foam, too, if it doesn't come with it. A/C condenser has bolts and sealer that need to be zipped off. Pull straight up, push back and wiggle it a little bit. They can get clogged up.
10mm bolts are on the fire wall holding the whole unit in place. The defrost door has a blend door actuator. You can test it with the four wires connecting to it. Good to clean out the leaves and crud. There are 3 blend door actuators. When you take the cap off, the box gets week, so be careful.

This is what I need for my truck. I’ve been told by every mechanic that this is an extremely labor intensive job so your video is just what the KZbin certified mechanic in me needed to figure out how to tackle or if to tackle this myself. God bless and thanks for the help

This video is gold, thank you for making. The only thing I think it may be missing is that the doors themselves probably should be replaced. The seals on the edges of them tend to go out and they'll allow air around.

Thank you so much for this. 1997 Sierra ( original owner ) and defrost has been crippled for about 5 years. Limped by through the winters ( self employed ) but now have time between jobs to deal with it. Psyched myself up changing the heater core on my son's 2001 Crown Vic last year. THAT was not fun! Going that far I guess I'll get the seat reupholstered, new carpet, door handles, inner and outer, rebuild the door hinges....... He's my buddy and after 335k he needs some lovin'!

One thing I’ve learned since I was six years old when I started working on these trucks is that everything goes out you repeatedly say that this goes out replace this. Well, that’s true for everything on these trucks. I’ve had to replace so many different things. Lots of people in my family on these types of vehicles and still have them today. I even have one and I have had to replace so many things by the time I’m done I pretty much have a brand new truck

I enjoy your video, Even though KZbin has it where you can't find all parts of somebody's video in one area you have to actually go fishing trying to find all the different part videos somebody has! But I happened upon this video which show me well let me start by saying I have a 97 Yukon the doors that regulate the defrost to the heater to the direction of the airflow or actually either broken or fell off inside the Box closest to the gas pedal! In this video here it appears that that box can be detached independently from the hole HVAC main box that holds the heater core in AC condenser or evaporator whatever whatever that is! My question to you is if I remove the two screws directly behind the engine would I be able to detach that box closest to the gas pedal to repair those doors inside without having to remove the whole unit box itself? I wish there was a way I can find all your videos starting from one, the dash removal all the way up to this one! The spring loaded levers that control from the actuator to those doors actually fell off due to the doors inside dropping. So I'm also going to need to know how they go back on which angle because one of them actually pivots, when I go to put it back together! Your video looks as if it would be helpful to me if I was able to find all the video Parts you have and be able to watch them one after the next but KZbin doesn't have it where I can find them all very easily if at all! But again my main question is would I be able to remove just that box closest to the gas pedal with those doors in it to repair those doors or replace them if need be? Or does the other end of those doors fit in slots inside the main box? I hope I'm making some kind of sense here! Thank you

Hi, 95 K1500, the only way to get hot air in the cab is on face setting. Any other settings gets room temp air. When we move the setting from face to feet or defrost, as the door is changing position, the blend door opens and air by passes the HC. Any chance you'd know why its doing that? Thanks
