@@gunsandprep7545 I stripped the head off the bolt and the part with two pipes have the hoses off but I drilled into the broken bolt using a 1/4" bit and tried to be able to remove the heater outlet triangle part. I cant find anyone to sell a bolt for the new part ( that I cant get the old one off) or know what size to get until I can get the old one off. Your video does not show that part, I wonder if You edited it out ? The 2" pipe that goes down into the block has probably corroded and is stuck. Hammer time...

ive been there before doing work on my truck at the side of the road cars driving by lol i have the same truck in an 03 i just did a power steering pump in the parking lot at some park lol

@@domls1317 hey its been 3 years since that comment. and the f150 i have is still running fine. engine and trans and diff have well over 200 000 miles still zero issues all origonal. it needs front brakes and both lower ball joints other than that cant complain at all for a vehicle i bought for 800 bucks

How did you get the "y" heater hose out of the block? i have taken the 8mm bolt out. does it wiggle out? dang thing is in the way of accessing the sensor. i see in your video the Y (metal tubes for the heater are in, then bam you have them out of the block and have access to the sensor. i already have all the EGR stuff removed from a previous repair.

Yeah mine took a bit of force to pop out the first time I believe I used the wooden handle of a hammer so that I would not ruin the y pipe

What prompted you to have to replace this piece,and how did you come to the conclusion that this is the problem?

Multiple random miss fires, really bad gas milage, I tried changing plug wires and the coil pack, did a compression test and really it was the last thing that it boiled down to. You don't just have to find out what's wrong but also what's right with the vehicle

@@gunsandprep7545 thanks,I was getting ready to open up then engine and screw with the timing chain/gears,but I'll try this first.what are the odds it's the timing? Mine doesn't even start up.it turns,has a new fuel pump,new coil,new wires,but has a very weak and erratic spark sequence.

@@metalmaniaxx did you check the coil pack? If you're getting weak spark I would look into that. Also if you're turning the engine by hand remove the spark plugs first so you don't have to fight the compression in the cylinders

Do you know witch cylinder is #1? I need to find TDC I took the part out and did not put it on TDC now I need to redo it

i made the same mistake didnt put it on tdc before taking it off, my truck turns off when i put it on reverse now and looses some power when i accelerate.

That's not the fuel pressure regulator it's the EGR valve. If the fuel pressure regulator is all the way on the back of the engine on the drivers side. You can't see it unless you pull the intake or take down the wheel liner on the drivers side. But if you ever have to do the intake gaskets witch is common on those engines you should do the regulator too even if it's not bad yet. It's a flat out bitch doing it through the wheel well.

Honestly it's been quite a while so i forget. That y pipe was a pain to remove.

I used the back of my hammer, it's rubberised. It took a lot of effort...

guns and prep I didnt replace the synce just the sensor and sensor moves sided to side I guess Ill have to tighten it but the two 5.5 ml bolts wont tighten anymore

luis chacon interesting, when your synchronizer sensors says that it's going bad you should the set synchronizer goes not the sensor itself but if it is loose there might be something wrong with you synchronizer with that aspect as well because it shouldn't be loose it shouldn't move at all when tighten down properly

I've recently encountered the issue of a bad synchronizer and for the life of me can not get the metal heater lines off of the water pump, any tips?

goertzey honestly I just wiggled and pulled it's a pain in the, also make sure your seal on the heater y pipe is in good condition after I had mine out I noticed it had been broken and someone used gasket maker to try and re seal it

Hey Matt, thanks for the reply! Thing is with mine, it will not wiggle at all. I've had it sitting for about a day's time now while frequently spraying it with penetrating oils, I've used heat to try and free it up, I've tried to pry at it, use channel locks to turn it. Nothing has come out of it :(. Not under 30 minutes ago I gave a shout to my mechanic and essentially was told if it doesn't move that it's best to buy a new AC heater outlet tube (the Y shaped fixture), cut the old one in half and force it out. Looks like I might be SOL

So I spoke with my mechanic again and because the 4.2 V6 engine in the 97's are a two speed idle, he said it's not that big of a deal that can wait a while before being replaced. So I'm going to leave it for now and when I have a bit more money, get a shop to replace it. Good thing is I know how to do it from your video when it breaks again ;)

Adan Contreras Jr all you have to do it get cylinder one to top dead center, you could put the sync back in for now get it to tdc and take it back out

Or put a screw driver in cylinder one and turn the engine until it is all the way up

what if i bought one with the sensor missing,i bought a e150 van with 4.2 litre because they couldnt fix it and sold it to me but its removed already,i have to start from scratch.

Just get cylinder one to top dead center and continue from there... There are many ways of finding TDC the tool and sensor just make it easier

Total CAKE...on the old 4.0 it's at the VERY BACK of the engine in the middle ....have to remove upper intake and still CANNOT see it....have to do it with braille and mirror....

Giovannie Gutierrez it will not run right. Spit sputter and misfire. The synchronizer was designed to replace the distributor (if you know the older cars)

Giovannie Gutierrez this is where the little plastic alignment tool comes in. You have to get cylinder 1 to top dead center used the alignment tool. if you don't know the components of this truck you shouldn't be working on it. You called your EGR valve your fuel pressure regulator. lol I commend you for trying to work on your vehicle but please learn what everything is. My f150 is almost 20 years old now. I suggest you also replace all your hoses going from the firewall to the rear canister.
