I have a 1980 Kawasaki Z1000 ST and a Z750 GT(european shafty), with VM 26 and BS34 carbs, which will undergo a total rebuild job, now that winter is just around the corner and outdoor activities are few and far between. Another great tutorial, Tom! I found a spray chemical that cleans off all of the nasty o-ring gasket grunge. Both OEM grunge and residue left by cheap rubber gaskets. Loctite 790 is my newer go to gasket softener and remover. It is expensive. A little goes a long way. This has remained a potent chemical where so many others have lost their ability to perform a good job. Just a thought. Be safe

We were fortunate. I've been reading stories on Facebook about SC, NC and TN plus some parts of GA... it's really bad. My wife's Nephew lost his biz up in SC, completely destroyed. Another one in SC said nobody has power, anywhere. Cell sites down. He was in the military 20+ years and served in combat roles; he said it looked like an actual combat zone or war zone. So yea, I ain't complaining. Cheers.

eBay. Now, just to be clear, I have no idea how good or bad these are gonna be, they haven't come yet. The Hurricane has delayed everything. So why do some bikes/carbs need air cutoff valves and some dont?? Can it be removed or bypassed? 91-03 750 Nighthawk carbs are so simple by comparison. So what fuel additive can be used all the time to stop that dreaded green goo? When you give this bike back, what do you tell the customer after ALL that work so it doesn't happen again immediately?

I find running non-ethanol gas is best for these older bikes.

Emissions, I guess. The manufacturers of this period were trying to thread the needle on EPA standards and if they jetted and set up carbs to run that lean all the time, they'd decel pop like a mother, probably other bad behaviors as well. There's plenty of material online if you go research motorcycle air cutoff valve which can answer any questions better than I can. I've read the material and understand the concept, but they explain it clearer. Anyway, it depends upon the valve as to how easy or difficult it is to bypass. Some are under a cover on the side of the carb, those are easy with a blanking plate. These external ones, I'm not too sure. The only thing I could think of if I were to go the bypass route, use an epoxy thin enough to get inside and fill up the valve without screwing up where the air cut jet goes, or the other part that takes the larger O-ring because the valve would still have to be reinstalled using proper O-rings, because even a bypassed valve would leak around where it's installed if that part isn't' done correctly, thereby negating the bypassing of the valve in the first place.
