I'm going to use a BT80 to do a Minarelli build, I would use one of these cylinders instead of a Minarelli, but the quality of the Stihl cylinder's just don't seem to be any better than the factory Chinese cylinders, I'm sure the Stihl cylinders run much better, but I'm shooting for longevity, not speed, great video, thanks for sharing.
@getitrunningdunning55882 жыл бұрын
I like the Stihl cylinders because they have port durations made for higher rpm power, wider port widths for better flow, better transfer angles that promote scavenging, and of course the displacement. For those reasons I see them as superior to stock cylinders but I have no doubt a Minarelli is a good choice as well.

@@BuildBreakFix I think you're right - they use a short rod and a low hole piston. Nice job. Good details. Not sure what shaving the crank does to a 56mm piston. Lightening the crank doesn’t balance it and a heavier piston would need more counter weight in mathematics.... definitely post the link to hear them running.
@getitrunningdunning55882 жыл бұрын
Lightening the crank does balance it as I take material off of the side attached to the conrod, it is not a conventional method so I understand your confusion but it works great with these motorized bike cranks. Balance factor is hung weight/ reciprocating weight. Shaving off the metal near the conrod effectively increases hung weight and balance factor as a whole.
@rogerstafford-wakeinc.20882 жыл бұрын
@@getitrunningdunning5588 a heavier piston such as 52-56mm is already in harmony to a degree. Pinching the low end and removing a few hundredths of play in your crank with a press makes more sense to me. You also are reversing crank case compression by adding volume, if anything it might keep the piston from cracking or longer life of your build but I don’t know how a light crank is set to a heavier piston and balanced.just my humble opinion sir.. again good job.
@getitrunningdunning55882 жыл бұрын
@@rogerstafford-wakeinc.2088 I understand how it can be confusing and appreciate your kind words, here is a video that might be able to help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpnSdpKDqqujhqs I may do a video later on it, I think my best way of explaining it is that balance factor isn't based on total crank weight it's based on how much on the reciprocating weight the weight of the crank accounts for. Motorized bike cranks are not bell shaped like some, they are basically discs. Taking off weight around the side where the conrod attaches is essentially the same as adding weight to the bottom because both increase hung weight. I hope I'm explaining this well enough, I think I'll do a video soon where I can actually give a visual example. it'd be a lot easier to demonstrate than to explain.

Nice job. If I may ask what is the squish on these engines? I'm thinking about buying one or maybe two. Btw I bought one from another builder and it runs but the compression seems to be one weak side that's why I ask about yours. Thanks.
@getitrunningdunning55882 жыл бұрын
I line up the piston at bdc to the bottom of the exhaust port. I'd suggest to check that on the other engine you have. I had to take material off both the case and cylinder to get the correct squish, If you sand/file/grind down the bottom of the cylinder until the top of the piston is flush with the bottom of the exhaust port at bdc compression should be good (unless there is something else messing with it). I'd say try that and get back to me if it works, make sure not to take off too much to prevent piston slap. make sure it's flat too. You can do it with a file it just takes a long time. I don't measure squish, I just use the piston to exhaust at bdc method which works well. I see other people who make these make that exact mistake, where they don't take off enough material and have very little compression, I'm surprised some of them even work. Good luck, I hope you can get yours working.

@getitrunningdunning55882 жыл бұрын
I'm not too familiar with that type of top end so I looked it up, from what I see it has a 42 mm stroke. Just make sure your crank and cylinder are for the same stroke. Motorized bikes typically have a 40 mm stroke but I've seen 38, and I think I've seen some people put larger cranks in them but I'm not sure. The port durations aren't going to be the same from factory because of the smaller stroke (if you put this cylinder on stock motorized bike crank). I think it would be able to run but probably not as well as you would like, I picked the stihl ms660 cylinder because it was the largest bore I could find with a 40mm stroke. I'm really not sure how well that husky one would work, but I'd definitely be interested to find out : )

I still have the one with the carburetor, there was one guy who said he would buy it but hasn't yet, not sure if it'll still be here on the tenth but the website will let you know. So far only sold one, but once I've sold them all I'm thinking either doing another batch (bigger batch this time) or try something new like this setup but with a case reed and a custom exhaust flange. May end up doing some combination of those two things, also working on some other projects at the moment though. The one with the carburetor has a 21 mm carb, so basically it will have great throttle response but you might want a bigger carb if you're going for peak power, something like a 24 or 26mm. I did tune it for this engine and it'll will work well (had to lean it out from stock because of how much suction this thing creates). Everything's a tradeoff, anyway thanks for your interest and yes I will be restocking but need to do these things in batches to be time effective.

I haven't used those cases but am guessing they're similar to the ones I did use which were 66cc ones. The stud mounting holes are further apart for the ms660, so you'll need to fill, drill, tap. I got dangerously close to the edge so for my next engine I'll be trying to add some material with aluminum welding to have more space for the studs. I think the phantom 85 bottm end might actually have a wrist pin bearing that's the right size for this so it's a great choice but don't quote me on that, I'm not sure.
