We continue to rebuild the rotted boat deck on our 1998 Bayliner Capri 1850(w/ Mercruiser 3.0 Engine) . Last episode we finished installing in the stringers(deck supports), now we're building and gluing in the bulkheads. I am gluing them in with thickened polyester resin i.e. "Peanut Butter".

Late to party on this series but found your explanations, camera work and video editing very top notch and easy to follow. You have a natural talent as a teacher. Also, you seem to know your stuff!

I had no choice but to subscribe because I'm following your steps to do exactly same thing to my 1998 bayliner capri lol and I tell ya this is tuff for my first time doing this and for being my first boat, its sucks I dont have a garage but I'll get it. You did an amazing job of person that I been watching how to rebuild this boat model.

Man that's crazy, you did a great job for first boat. The video of you taking the boat when you said "alright there goes wake zone time to see if this bad boy can fly" then the motor cut off I swear I thought the motor locked up I died laughing. I said welp I think that's gonna happen to me too lol

@@jamesgarcia9039 🤣 It was coincidental timing but made for a comedic effect in the video! It's never died like that since. Only time it does is when I had idle set too low so rough idling would sometimes kill it. Simple fix, increase idle speed, but then you start having a pretty fast speed idling in the no wake zone 😝

when making a template do not use foam, its too expensive. Use cardboard to cut exactly the way you want it then transcribe onto the wood you are going to cut.

Sure would be nice to build with something other than wood that might rot again. Marine Starboard polymer sheets? Especially the transom as it is a major tear up to get at.

I like the idea of just pure fiberglass, see it more and more on new designs. And on PWC's of course

@@ZachsGarage1 Yes. Of course. Makes perfect sense. I have a 2001 Stingray 180LX but have never looked under the floor as it seems solid so far. Thanks for the reply!

@zachs garage, nice video. Just wondering What are you using : 1. polyester resin or epoxy resin? 2. structural plywood or marine plywood ? thanks for the answer. regards

As a beginner, I would think that the plywood you removed for the tank plumbing was excessive. Doesn't that reduce the deck support across the bulkhead? Also, I was wondering if you were going to put supports between the stringers on the left and right? Would foam provide enough lateral support to keep them together?
@ZachsGarage1

The pieces I put on top and the foam held them apart

@@ZachsGarage1 Grasshopper has a lot to learn. If you had put supports in then the foam wouldn't have been able to get between them. I see now. Thanks for your patience Zach.

I know this was a year ago now but do you think this would have worked? AMAZON - Relitec Contour Gauge Duplicators, Simple Shape Contour Gauge Duplication, Instant Template For Curved and Odd Shapes, Easy Master Outline Gauge Tool for Cutting Set of 2 (5" Widen and 10" Widen)

Thanks for putting this information out! I’m going to be tackling this same project over the summer. Question, did you use half inch or three quarter ply for your stringers and bulkheads? Thanks!
@ZachsGarage1
@ZachsGarage1 4 жыл бұрын
Half inch, and I dare say that may have been overkill still, from the factory it looked like they only had 1/4"

Why didn't you put any chopped strand in your peanut butter?
@ZachsGarage1
@ZachsGarage1 4 жыл бұрын
I think I didn't because it gets a little messier to work with. But for maximum structural strength you can add them in. In my case with the bulkheads a I knew a lot of strength would be added to them with the layers of 1708 fiberglass I put on them connecting them to the hull. Hope that helps!

Thanks, love the vids (and your struggles 😉). Instead of keeping the stringers straight, wouldn't it have been better to use the bulkheads to curve the stringers? In hindsight its always easier, I know.

Just bought the same boat 00' model from Org owner. Seats and interior in Excellent condition, Motor Running but needs a tune up. Only problem, Center of floor rotted. It's already been cut out to back seat. Just have to figure out the plan. These videos are giving me that plan. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them, Sub'd you. . I already think I'm gonna use bigger pieces of PVC pipe in the middle for drainage. Question? Are you putting a Ski locker back in center?
