On this morning’s Toucher & Rich show, the guys discussed Curt Schilling's recent podcast where he revealed, without permission, that his former teammate Tim Wakefield had brain cancer. Fred and Rich criticized Schilling for breaking Wakefield's trust and questioned his justification of using religion to explain his actions.

Wake was my favorite pitcher because knuckleball, I’m sad that it’s happening, but so pissed that Schilling felt above everything and announced it. I’m glad to be able to know my hero is hurting so I can keep him in my thoughts, but damn… it’s his story to tell or not tell.

Disclaimer, I'm not a Christian, but my inlaws are and I've been to services at their church numerous times. They have this moment every servicd where they pass a microphone so people can share "joys and concerns." There a quite a few eldery folks at the church and often there is a congregant who might be serioulsy ill. Members will ask for prayers, etc. They will also sometimes ask for prayers for people who don't go to the church, and often they won't mention that person's name. And guess what, people pray for these anonymous persons. If there exists this omniscient god, wouldn't they know who you're requesting prayers for. Schilling could have said, "I know a family that has some serious medical stuff going on right now and I just want to ask you in my audience to pray for them," wouldn't that have sufficed? He wou!d have looked like a good guy on the other end of it, too.

My brother got brain cancer also. He said to my mom, dad, uncle and me to ((not)) tell anyone. My STUPID dad gets on the phone and is calling everyone to tell them. The phone is ringing off the hook, were getting (sympathy cards) in the mail and people are coming over to our house to visit. My brother was furious.

Did anyone know he was sick at all? No. Tim passed away today, two days after this. An no one knew he was sick. I don’t blame curt for saying something, when your friend is at the end and people don’t even know or care, you will do whatever you can to change it. Rest in peace, Tim. In 2007, Tim left himself off the WS roster so that there would be an available spot for the World Series. They won, his second series. That’s who Tim was. That’s the stuff that should be remembered. Basic respect by Schilling should have been shown. And it was not. If Schilling had said something lowkey about prayers for Wakefield I would have had not as big a problem. Not what happened.
