Excellent work, really appreciate your channel as a DIYer for directions on how to keep my personal vehichles in great shape. I also live in the Midwest and would love to see a video breaking down your winter washing methods/tips (i.e. I know you use hot water in cold temps, but what outdoor temperature ranges do you wash in during the winter and what water temp do you use and how much time do you budget for your outdoor wash during freezing temps? I see that you wash in the drive way during the winter with car running, how bad is the freezing water on the ground? Then you pull cars into heated garage and use Bigboi heated blow dryer and then do final detail in garage? Do you ever wash in your heated garage? What extra steps do you use to remove salt durning the winter?....). Again thank you for sharing your expertise!

Thanks for watching I'll try and make a video on this soon. But I wash cars outside when it's pretty cold. I think the real feel was around 10° yesterday when I was washing a Porsche. One really nice thing about that is you basically never get water spots because it's way too cold for the water to evaporate. So washing and direct sun is no big deal. When it does get around 10° or below that or even like 15 or 20 it can get really hard for you personally to be outside for that full wash process. So sometimes I do kind of an abbreviated wash and then finish up inside. You really start to feel it in your hands after 20 or 30 minutes being outside even with the proper gloves. Oddly I've never had freezing water in my driveway issues. I have a blacktop and even when it's freezing outside and I get a light dusting of snow it just melts during the daytime. I think the blacktop just does something different than concrete and dissipates the snow and water or heats up enough from the UV and the Sun to actually retain heat and melt everything. I don't always keep cars running but typically it's a good idea if the car is brand new and is in the break-in. Frequent turn off and turn-ons is not great for a car with 10 miles on it. On occasion I do washing in the garage and then I have a giant squeegee and I push all the water back out with the door cracked an inch. This is a pretty slow process though because I have to squeegee a lot in between doing certain sections or I'll flood the garage. But if I really need to wash something extremely expensive to do PPF for example and it's like -20 out then I'll do a wash inside or do a very very slow and careful waterless wash with an IK foamer Gyeon foam or CarPro lift are great have you hitters for helping with extra contamination like extra salt on your car. In the winter every single wash I do gyeon WetCoat or carpro hydro I'm literally everything I can spray it on. It's a spray and rinse product which is great so you can spray it anywhere. I like to try and put it into my control arms in a fender wells on my wheels calipers glass paint trim you name it I put it on it. It's a really great ceramic base sealant that will keep your car a little more clean and a little more protective through the harshest parts of the winter. It's extremely fast and easy to apply. I don't recommend doing this in your garage especially if you have an epoxy floor or tile floor like me. The runoff will basically wax your floor. So only do this one outside in your driveway.

Yes it did get clay especially because of the full body PPF. It will often pull very mild things that may not really be a issue during correction or ceramic but will show as a micro dimple in the PPF. So. As a precaution we clay basically everything we PPF. Sometimes we break traditional rules for certain instances. So it's hard to say we always or never do something.

Do you wipe up the polish liquid at all or do you just polish the whole car and do the wash at the end and that’s it? I’m having a hard time removing all the polish liquid while I’m prepping before coating. Love the videos and skill !
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Ай бұрын
Good question because I don't show that often. After every polish section or cycle I wipe a d inspect. The paint is "clean" after paint correction. The dust is just overwhelming and a wash is best. Not sure I understand your comment about polish liquid removal before coating. You should be wiping your polish and compound off after you do a door for example. Wipe. Inspect. Do more or move on if Happy. If your having serious problems with polish residue sticking them you may need to change brands of pads. Polish. Compound. Polishers. Or technique.

Do you remove the hood emblem and ppf over the area to avoid having to trim around the emblem?
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 5 ай бұрын
It's cut with emblem on. Hard to explain but it's cut basically on badge and then fi is pushed flush with badge. You won't see the edge. This makes removal easier. PPF should always be installed with a future removal in mind. Pulling the badge off risks losing a bolt in hood especially on carbon hoods. Literally never getting that out and it will rattle around. No benefits to removal when you cut and tuck it the way I do.

I dont see anything wrong with plotting a film to have overhang so you can tuck all your edges
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 3 ай бұрын
Extending edges can work well. But on many panels to do it perfect with no adhesive lines or stretch marks you need a lot of extra film... Bulk install to pull stretch and tack to another panel so the panel your installing on is completely floating. When you plot you tack corners or something on the panel your installing so you can get stretch without the film sliding all over. This creates adhesive lines. Some panels would definitely be convenient to plot. Like smaller pieces on a c8 lower front bumper for example. But I'm low volume and don't want a plotter and software fees for such a small percentage of work. Bulking allows for advanced installation techniques. Simple as that. For a company with employees who don't have the skill set needed to do something to the standard I want the great equalizer is a plotter. It will help them go from incapable of bulking to doing potentially passable plot work. Go find a shop with a bunch of employees. They all have plotters for a reason. Turnover/trainability. Just my two cents. The stuff people don't like to talk about 👍

I guess this channel is for car detailing enthusiasts. With all the detail paid to the car paint , how would one want to take that mint detailed car out to the environment again ? Such a car should only stay inside a showroom or a clean garage for all year round. I mean the moment you take the car out for a drive, forget it, all that mint condition is gone. Is the car meant to serve the owner or the owner serving the car which is an inanimate thing? If I spend all that time getting all the spots and imperfections out of the paint , and then seeing it marred again the moment I took it out for a drive , I will go nuts. What kind of real joy can one get to own a car this way ? I mean, consider the paranoia !
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 11 ай бұрын
You do the steps performed to make it perfect. Then PPF to seal that in. Then ceramic to make it easier to wash. So you can drive it and enjoy it. If your going to never drive it and put it inside forever you can skip the $9k PPF step. Correct it. Coat it. Stare at it lol
@anthonyboey3210
@anthonyboey3210 11 ай бұрын
@@STATUSDETAIL $9K is a lot of money, and the PPF eventually will need to get replaced at some point in time. Cars depreciates in value , even if you put the PPF on it, it will still depreciate in value. So that's additional 9K you will never recover when you sell it. Over the 8 years that I have owned my current Mercedes, I wash it once a week, polish it once a year, and apply the Turtle wax ceramic spray coating once a week, the car , though with some swirls if you look at it up close, still looks very decent. And total cost spent over 8 years on products, ~ $500.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL 11 ай бұрын
@@anthonyboey3210 nothing wrong with that approach. But this car will do 150 on a racetrack routinely and is likely considerably more expensive than the Mercedes unless it's like a GTR pro. Why not pay for the protection if the money isn't going to be missed in your bank account. A lot of people watch videos like this in there own shoes and naturally it seems very expensive then. Imagine you make 4 or 5 times or more your current income. You will look at protection of your quarter million dollar car differently.
