I just had to hear the end of the theme tune again as it reminded me of watching this with my family when I was very young. Strange how memories like this just pop into your head.

I was 6 years old when this happened. I remember not being scared at all by the high winds. It wasn’t until years later, thanks to KZbin (and the Internet in general) that I’ve been able to go back and appreciate just how bad it was for some people.

I was 5, I hadn't ever experienced something like that before so I really didn't know what to make of it. I remember my mum making us all sleep in the downstairs bathroom because it was the only room in the house that didn't have windows, she was afraid the windows in all the other rooms were going to shatter. You could hear the air being sucked in and out of them around the frames. To me it was just an adventure, so to see the destruction the next morning was surreal. My neighbours roof had mostly been torn off, ours was missing quite a few tiles and our garage had collapsed.

I was 17 at the time and remember it very well; as a YTS trainee I recall Michael Fish's famous words were unforgettable and came back to haunt him. The date also happened to be my brother Anthony's 20th birthday!

I believe it's mandatory that every true disaster story must have an early labor/delivery story before it can be aired! (Actually the low atmospheric pressure during a weather event does bring on an early onset to labor.)

I was in New Forest, I woke at about 4am. There was a sound like a car slowing down, then it just sort of acellerated and I heard a series of loud cracks. When daylight came I looked out and saw a copse of mature Poplar trees, owned by Bryant May the match company, to make match sticks. They had snapped in half! We were about a mile from the main road, no power, it took 18 hours to cut the way back to the main road.

I was 3 years old when this storm hit. Although our town wasn't exposed to the highest wind speeds in that storm, they were strong enough to take off some of the roof tiles on our house - including one that fell from the roof through the attic and managed to smash through my bedroom ceiling and strike me on the head whilst I slept. Apart from a minor cut I was fine thankfully, but it gave my father quite the scare!

I remember being a 11yr old not taking this storm seriously trying to be a "man" amd thinking it's not all that. Then as I was walking past one of the neighbours tall wooden fences opposite the road and it's just tore off. Imagine you tear a A4 paper in half lengthways. Right opposite me and it flew off into the wind. Then I realised this storm is deadly and can kill people. Luckily home was 50 yards away but I should never have gone out on an errand. Must have been about 8pm.

Hi sorry a few years since you posted your comment, but I was featured in the programme as my colleague and I (Police) found a surfer stranded out in the bay that no one had reported missing and then the resuce efforts by all the emergency services to resuce him as he was caught up in the swell/surf out in on of the small bays. Incident occured on the 1st January 1994. If anyone has the episode please share/let me know. All happened in Jersey, filmed in the early Autumn of 1994 but can't remember when the epsiode was broadcast. Would love to share with my son. Thank you.
