@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 Жыл бұрын
CR500s are all low end power. They sound like they are practically idling around a track. Revving them only wears you out quicker rather than letting the bike work for you.
@scottpeters8640 Жыл бұрын
@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 I know this is just speculation, but I would guess a top 450 Pro could (if allowed) run a CR 500 in a modern chassis and not even need to replace the rings thru a whole 450 MX season, eleven races. Those 500's were that durable.

I was wondering about the rules. How could active athletes like Tommy, Evgeniy, Mel compete against real grey heared 50 year old veterans?
@999lazer Жыл бұрын
So the "stars" like Tommy,etc generally only ride in the "Nations" race which is the team race where the countries race against each other (a team of 3 from each nation). There are lots of other races where you wouldn't ride against these guys. That said our test rider Sean rode in the over 50's class where Chicco Chiodi was also racing. He absolutely loved racing against one of his heroes. Its not very often that you get the chance to do that :)

@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 Жыл бұрын
500s also have on average 30%+ more torque.
@nate5land Жыл бұрын
I’ve ridden both extensively, including testing side by side and swapping bikes so here’s my answer. They’re very different, but also very similar. They’re both big bores and are to be ridden as such. The biggest difference is power delivery… the 500s don’t rev nearly as high so their entire power band is condensed into a smaller rpm range, but then spread back out with taller gearing. What does this translate to when riding? The 500s have way more low end torque and are far less prone to stalling in corners or on steep hill climbs. It’s like a cheat code at low RPMs. Things even up after that and in the upper mid-range RPMs the 450 takes the tiniest advantage, but it’s short lived, because the 500 will walk (slowly) the 450 on top. Other differences: 500 is slightly lighter, 450 gets much better gas mileage, 500 needs premix, 450 lasts longer, 500 easier to rebuild, 450 expensive to rebuild, 500 feels dated, 450 feels like a weapon (just a faster smoother way of getting from A to B), 500 is more fatiguing to ride (both because of power delivery, but also vibrations going to your hands). I think anyone comfortable with riding either can swap back and forth. To me, riding a 250 2S is much more challenging than either. I prefer big bores, so maybe that’s just me. In the end, they’re both surprisingly close and just go about doing the same thing differently. Hope that helps!
