9mm winchester ranger t-series VS black talon in ballistics gel (Glock 17 Gen1)

My agency switched from the Federal Hydrashok 124 grain +P+ to the Winchester 124 grain +P SXT which had nickel brass. The department tested different types of ammunition and found the Winchester was slightly faster and expanded beautifully in ballistic gel. I had to dispatch a deer and on the opposite side the bullet was poking out and it sure was sharp. The higher velocity definitely helped make a quick kill. The original Black Talon 9mm was available in 147 grain. The infamous Long Island Railroad Murderer used this ammunition. It forced Winchester to drop the Black Talon name and remove the black coating. The inside joke was the new designation SXT stood for Same exact thing.

The military’s 9mm m1153 jhp is the basically a 147gr updated slightly black talon

You get better expansion from RA9T in most cases. But in my experience that SXT has the sharpest petals of all of them and they tend to stick out the furthest everytime.

Great video man I also just purchased that retro release gen1 g17 like the ammo test vid I also have those same rounds in my pile but my talon ammo is Nickel plated instead of brass I can’t believe that old school talon sells for a nice premium theses days 👌

All Winchester did was not coat the tips black lol and called them ranger Ts lol just to Appease the anti gun morons save the rest of those talons those are a cool piece of history in my opinion!!

Awesome test comparison! Technically, the Black Talon is also an SXT bullet; RA9SXT which is supposed to be identical to the RA9SXTC, but after seeing the expansion results I doubt they are the same bullet. The construction of the RA9SXTC and RA9SXT seem to be different, with the RA9SXT having longer talons and better expansion than it's RA9SXTC cousin.

All the ones I tested here were the 147gr standard pressure but they do have a 124gr+p and a 127gr+p+

Sorry, I usually don’t criticize, but why would you go through the trouble of doing this test with only one 13” block? Especially when you know all of these rounds will exceed 13.” Unless you’re only seeing if they’ll expand at all, the jugs just leave an incomplete test. Final depth would have been nice. Anyway, I do appreciate your efforts.
