Never knew about the 400 magnum never saw one then. Wonder if the late model sanden AC compressors can be fitted to the orig brackets. Way more efficient dont usea s much hp to turn

@@gordocarbo Old aircon generally works pretty good if maintained. If making hp is a need I recon heads, cam, intake, gears is the way to go. And yet its kinda cool the way it is.

Neat car, cool story. You are Mopure! I delivered these cars when they were new, working at a Plymouth stealership, with a Dodge parent stealership. As you remember, the automotive scene was less than stellar those years. The best salesmen used to get the full load black or dark grey Magnums. It went very well with their wide lapelled leather 3/4 coats, big hair, fumachu mostaches, high heeled clogs and wide legged pants. They were very sleek and very cool in car circles in those days. It was no time at all before guys were dropping in used or rebuilt hipo 440s from earlier muscle cars or cop cars. With the B-body torsion bars they really handled and rode well at high speed. Used to drive my 360'd one, with the 2.45 gearing to Toronto from Ottawa at 95mph and it was just loafing along and stable at those speeds. I remember the enormous tank too. I used the enormous oversized catless Y-pipe from Walker and a huge custom bent tailpipe down the one side with whatever 3" turbo Midas was selling. Beautiful rumble at idle with the MP dist timed the way I had it(lean burn was at the bottom of a lake). Nothing sounds like a Thermoquad wide open. My youngest brother got clocked at 236 km/h (143 mph) on a local highway in that car and he said he had plenty of pedal to spare. The way I had the 727 set up it upshift outta 1st at almost 60mph and bury the speedo in 2nd at wide open throttle. The buddy who owned it before me was playing with a newer Firechicken on the 401, playing leap frog and he waited til' the guy had topped out then left him sitting as he pulled away from him like he was standing still. Loved those 360s for torque.

You are a man after my own heart David H. You are 1 of those real rare true car guys & DIY’s you did the work yourself and learned as you worked on both of your cars as you went along. Excellent work and a job well done on both the 78 Dodge Magnum XE and the 73 Dodge Monaco Beach Wagon/ Station Wagon. I liked how you spared no expense on ordering all the Bells & Whistles for both Rides especially the The Big Block 4BBL 440 V8 Power Plant for the Wagon & the Big Block 4BBL 400 V8 Power Plant for the Magnum XE plus u know and knew your Rights as a car guy. The politicians and opec back then took away the excitement and fun of when a Ride was a Ride back then you knew what you wanted, what you had and what you could and do with your Ride back then. In 78 we had that Blizzard of here in Massachusetts that was my Sophomore Year of High School didn’t have school for almost three months but had to make up the days we missed had missed about half that summer that year almost missed out on 4th of July celebration. But that is one experience I will never ever forget. We had a golden retriever of whom our dad would let go out to do his business, and man that snow was so deep and high that the dog was looking for a good spot to take care of business every time and everywhere he would think found a good spot he would sink in some of the softer parts of the snow until finally he found one that supported his weight if only you could’ve seen the expression and look on his face, it was definitely priceless. When he was done and finished taking care of his personal business he could not wait to come back and get inside the house. What a year that was. As a matter of fact we walked to the A&P Super Market the next 2 or 3 days we didn’t live that far from the A&P but it was rather difficult to walk around and it was a snow weather emergency. We walked quite a ways until we were spotted by the National Guard they asked us what we were doing and going in this weather you know there was a snow band emergency for the entire State of Massachusetts and other parts of the upper parts of east coast that suffered heavy snow fall. Our dad told them we were going food shopping and we were very low on food so they told to get one of their rear covered big trucks that had 4-wheel drive took us to the market we barely got enough food to last us. It was dad our big brother, me and our little brother. Dad and big brother had 4 shopping bags 2 in both hands and me and lil kid brother had 2 shopping bags 1 in each we were on making our way back home who stopped and picked us up the National Guard. They dropped us off right at the end of our street. We all thanked them and dad told and said to that they were doing a good job but a tremendous job as well. They said and told us thanks and off they went to assist others that needed assistance. David H back to you, again excellent job and work on both your Dodges. Like I said before and I’ll say it again I still would choose any Antique, Classic and Vintage Rides of The Big Three over the cars and suv’s they make and manufacture today. Sincerely Yours Truly Ivan I J🧔🏾👨🏾‍💼🕺🏾🕶👓👔👖👕👖🧢👟🥾👞💼🎒

I was given a '76 Valiant (V8) "Custom" sedan that was built toward the end of A-body production. Original owner gave the car to me- it had been sitting since the '80's, due to a leaky heater core & the top tank on the radiator was seeping. All I had to do was promise not to cut it up or flip it. I have swapped on 11.75" rotors, cop wheels (with AMC "Volcano" centers) with 60-series rubber, 340/AHB suspension in front, JRSpring HD V8 leafs (with poly bushings like some spots up front), FFi rear sway bar, HD cooling, Performer RPM intake with a properly working TQ....it's just a clean, fun driver

My father had 5 Magnums at one point in the 90s two of them GTs 1 T top. Sold 4 when he moved out of country in early 200s and one to me. I liked it but was young and ended up selling it so I could get a Mustang. I had the 440 engine with that pesky spark advance system that kept going out. Thanks for the video.

DAMMIT, I miss my '78 Magnum XE, triple black with T-bar roof, 400, lean burn, which I got rid of, rebuilt Thermoquad, advance curb electronic distributor, orange box, etc; I miss that car so much, it caught fire 🔥!!! It backfired through the carb, the distributor rattled loose, loss timing, nasty fire happened!!! The whole front end burned pretty bad,, ended up parting it out, that broke my heart ♥ bigtime!!! Looking for another to clone Richard Petty STP Magnum Stocker!!! Mopar, or no car!!! Mopar Nate Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Biggest problem we would see when those came in the shop (mid-late 80s) was those lean burn systems...like Fords duraspark?? always went goofy . In ca so they had to keep them and those crappy pellet style cats to pass smog. Great looking cars! Op....I think those wheels you have were sold by Western Wheel. Few places made em 1st car a 67 rs I got late 80s had those up front they were indentical.

I've got one with the same color and reason I have it is I don't remember.😊 But it was taken off the road when it was only a few years old. Does not have an engine. So of course I was interested in this story. I've always liked the body style. The old boy that owns his car this one has a magnificent story. My question is when he welded up to k frame. He did this before you weld at the exhaust. But he said he learned how to weld so he could do the exhaust? I like the station wagon too thanks for sharing
