Vijay, The Russians were constrained elsewhere (ukraine), whereas the Iranians (IRGC) were constrained, from the beginning, by the Russians. For almost a decade the Russians have been actively diminishing the influence and operational footprint of the IRGC in Syria simply to placate Netanyahu, and more importantly, Erdogan. Had the IRGC not been continuously hamstrung by the Russians, they would have been able to set up a PMU equivalent in Syria, which could have bolstered the regular army, kept excesses and corruption in somewhat of a check, and prevented the collapse that just occurred. Instead, Vladimir Putin once again handed to his enemies the knife that they used to stab Russia and the entire West Asian bulwark of the emerging Eurasian resistance alliance in the back. Bravo!
