@michaeltutty15403 жыл бұрын
Great job. The ride height looks about right to me, but I am more familiar with the wagons. One thing about the Volvo springs is that they seem to as durable as the rest of the car. Arthur, my 1990, had his 600,000 kilometer service in May. The factory installed springs are still doing their job. What is amazing is that the old car has been known to carry a full 1,000 kilograms of cargo on more than one occasion, and he still sits level.

You forgot the saloon spring SPACERS at the top! ... It'll look perfectly normal once you put the hubcaps back on. That's the optical illusion coming into play. I like your videos as much as 240's themselves. (ha, just kiddin about the spacers... )

I installed GT upper and lower strut braces on my sedan. Instead of replacing the rear with a thicker anti-roll bar to correct the oversteer, I installed wagon rear springs. My idea was to maintain as much flex as possible while also stiffening the rear to counter the oversteer. It has very balanced handling. And mine sits level with these and poly bushings.
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Nice, sounds like a great setup, I've seen strut braces are a popular choice I need to look into it

@@Involvod You wouldn’t think these 240s could be any more fun to drive, but strut braces really do improve the handling!

I have had friends in the Service that said it is hard to pass vehicle inspections in Germany. They took a car from the US to Germany and it didn't pass.
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
To be honest it wasn't as bad as I was expecting in the end, both cars failed first but rightly so, they could have been alot tougher on me put it that way 😄 I'd prefer to be in the US though, especially in one of the states where cars don't even need an inspection!

I think the ride height looks good! I don't know if it's normal. It seems like all 240s ride a little lower in the rear? I've always wanted a set of air shocks to bring the back up a tad. Especially for my wagon.
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think you're right and it seems a tad higher now since fitting, perhaps everything had to settle in
@michaeltutty15403 жыл бұрын
If the springs are in good condition, the wagon should sit level. Depending on how you balance the weight of the cargo, when fully loaded the wagon should sink almost equally at all 4 corners. We have, on more than one occasion, carried a full 1,000 kilograms of cargo in the back of my 1990 wagon. It still sits level on its original springs after 600,000 kilometers.

I was thinking of putting a pair of springs for bmw estate to my bmw saloon. 320d 2017. Ones a saloon ones an estate. Would my ride quality be a lot worse? I was told the estate springs are more durable so can take a lot more weight. What can I expect from the change ??
@Bassalicious3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on getting the TÜV approval! Does the estate ride noticeably harder than your saloon on the original springs then? The weight on the rear axle without anything in the back shouldn't be too different, right? I've got a 245 and haven't been in a 244/242 for too long to be able to compare.
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I only drove the estate once but it didn't seem extra firm, but going over bumps in the saloon with estate springs fitted was really harsh, it is strange considering there's only 100kg or so difference between them I think
@Bassalicious3 жыл бұрын
@@Involvod The only way to find out for certain would be throwing 4 bags of cement into the boot of a saloon on estate springs I guess, haha. Good luck selling your silver peach soon!

@@Involvod don't forget that the wagon has all the extra weight above and behind the rear axle, so all of that extra 100 kilograms is carried by the rear springs.
