Glad to see Lily run and you waffle on again! :) Eh, she didn't break, she just wanted to be heard better. :D You do you Sledge, don't force yourself to do YT when you're not feeling it. I'd rather have a video every few months with a happy Sledge than see burnt-out Sledge every other day. Much love, brother.

Mustie1, the KZbin fix-it guru did some videos where he put windows and ventilation in his shipping container. Of course, he owns his outright so it's not an option available to everyone. But it can be fixed and it does provide excellent storage when making the changes necessary. Good to see you back, really hope you'll return to KZbin.

Hi Sledge! Nice to see Lili running and driving! I had the same thing happen to me on my 240 a few months ago, on a drive with my girlfriend, needless to say I felt a bit silly 😅😂 I had rust on other spots of the exhaust so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try the stainless exhaust kit from Ferrita sold on Skandix. I gotta say, it's quite expensive, but for now I'm satisfied and I just feel good knowing that it's stainless and should therefore stay in a nice shape for a whiiiiile.

If she's a keeper, it is worth investing in a good exhaust, even an stainless steel custom damper might be an option, I have had that done on my car and it was actually surprisingly affordable.

If it's your shipping container you could probably cut in an exhaust fan to keep air circulating. Should prevent the humidity from building up inside it. Or, alternatively, a dehumidifier inside could also fit the bill. Glad you're pondering a return.

I sensed an exhaust leak as soon as I heard Lily start up. I am on my second replacement rear muffler on my 245. Though the first replacement was a used unit so I didn't expect it to last. The current unit seems to be holding up with daily driving. It was made by a company called OES (original exhaust systems). I look forward to seeing some unreleased footage!

Welcome back. Unfortunately their is always some condensation in the rear of the tail pipe, unless it has been driven a fair distance prior to putting in the container . So the moisture would have sat in the lowest portion to merrily attack the metal. Cars should always be put into storage after they have got to full operating temperature to rid any lingering moisture especially in a cold climate . . I am happy that we have not heard the last of you. Best regards from Australia to your you and your family.

Ah, the classic rusty exhaust. I recall buying a brand new complete exhaust for my 740 from the Volvo dealer many years ago. Lasted maybe 5 years before it broke in half. Exchanged it for a stainless exhaust and never regretted that decision. Even on my Amazon, the silencer I replaced a couple of years ago is already very rusted. And that isn't even driven on the winter roads! Rust scaling on it. Just a matter of time before it has a hole in it. Can't find a stock looking stainless system for my Amazon model, unfortunately. Though, a friend said he would weld one up for me if I got the appropriate parts.

Yep my 850 I’ve had 30 years never been garaged and she doesn’t not like being driven! 200 and 700s are the same and as you mentioned they sweat in garage etc. So wise to get her out at least. I used to just run mine once a week while she was Sorned in the Peak District. I paid the price too letting her stand, brake parts rusting and siezing so lesson learnt.

shipping containers are a great way of storage, if you keep moisture in mind. Otherwise all those ships would deliver us spoiled goods :D If that container is airtight just use a couple bags of cat litter for moisture removal and change them every couple months and get a cheap hygrometer. If you dare you could also just flush out the oxygen with some inert gas (this is what real conservation tryhards do for long long term storing, they do put the car in an oversized balloon tho)
@fhwolthuisАй бұрын
I guess shipping containers are fine in hotter climates, see Sarah n Tuned who uses them too. But not in northern Europe 😢

One thing I do to my Volvo before running it after a couple months of sleeping: run the starter for 5-10 seconds with the main lead off the rotor cap. This will get oil to the top of the engine before it starts to run and also flush a bit of the old fuel that's right at the carburettor/injectors.

@User-wollswoycegawageАй бұрын
Ok you've just changed my simple storage plan I was thinking a few containers to house my cars There cheap to buy Don't need planning permission BUT you've pointed out a problem that I had overlooked Condensation! !! Ok better than just sat outside What about a dehumidifier ? Or open doors to let it air
@BassaliciousАй бұрын
You'd need to hermetically seal it for dehumidification to make sense, I'd suggest a blow-up car garage tent with moisture absorbing silica packs inside. I've seen collectors conserve very expensive classics that way. Granted it was in underground garages, not containers, so the tent and silica would have to do more heavy lifting. But since they are blow-up, they are hermetically sealed and should work.
@tuusannuuskaАй бұрын
The issue is the plywood, the wet plywood can contain tens of litres of water. So here how it works. You close the container, the temperature goes up so the moisture goes from the floor into air, at night temperature drops and the humidity condensates. What you need is proper ventilation so the water can evaporate out of the plywood and out, not to stay in the enclosed environment, where it will keep " raining" with temperature changes. Making it airtight is only going to make it worse. Depending what the container is used before, if the plywood is washed it may contain unbelievable amounts of water. Humidifiers or desiccants would help but the moistures comes from the floor. Get it dry and container well ventilated.

@warpath9516Ай бұрын
No actually, the exhausts rust like crazy because of the petrol is bad and takes up alot of condensate... when your exhaust stays for a long time + wet area + bad petrol and maybe petrol injections that leak it will build up in your exhaust system and could make your exhaust rust and then break...
