Exactly how my 240 looked, only the metal tank matched the condition of the sender! I never had to work on the tanks in the 2 700's I had and didn't realize they were plastic. That should save you a lot since you can clean it. I suspect the injectors may be messed up now.

Nightmare! Hopefully the new filter underneath the car did its job and didn't let anything through apart from un-burnable fuel. I'll put in some injector cleaner for good measure and hope 🙏

Be careful with all those vapours mate. You will need lots of ventilation and keep taking breaks or you will have a big headache. Well done for getting the fitting out without breaking it!

Thanks! I just realised it didn't smell overwhelmingly of fuel vapours when I was in there, the decade old fuel must have lost alot of its punch!

I had a bunch of footage for a vid on my 740 fuel pump, but I deleted it. Went real smooth, not like what your dealing with. I’d replace the filter and pump under the car also. as you’ve probably sucked up some love from the tank. My filter under the car was pretty bad. Car would cut out and fall on its face when going over 96.561 kilometers per hour or 60 mph All better now. Thanks for sharing

I did things the wrong way around and replaced the filter and pump underneath the car first, then when it started running rough I decided to take a look inside the tank, lesson learnt 😃 Thanks, looking forward to another one of your vids!

Deja Vu for Me I did that exact same Job on "Snowy" My 740 only 6 weeks ago! Memories of fighting all those clamps. My problem was that all that rust was cleaned by the e10 fuel and ended up in My carb :-( All fixed now though :-)

I had to replace the pump in the tank of my 940. Spent ages trying to wiggle that bit and the pump through that bloody improperly named "access panel". Eventually dropped the tank from under the car. Yes the drive shaft comes of first. Why Volvo designed the tank with a plastic part curving over the drive shaft I cannot fathom. Now the rusty pump is removed, change the petrol filter next to the high pressure fuel pump. Cheers

@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын
Ah what a hassle! I did this in the wrong order, already replaced the pump and filter underneath the car to get it to start in the previous video, after a few minutes it started running rough, hopefully the new filter isn't totally messed up 🤞
@mayflowerlash11

@@Involvod Yep. When my 940 wouldn't start (cranked easily though) I was tempted to go straight to the filter but then thought that a gradual filter blocking up would not produce a sudden non start, so I went further back to the source. You win some, you lose some.

A little tip when installing the sending unit. Drop it upside down thru the hole in the floor and to the right above the differential. Then turn it around and in to the tank. Thats the way you are supposed to install them whitout bloody knuckels 😂

Everyone's always dumping on german cars, I´ve owned many BMWs, Audi's,VW's,Fords, Mazda's, Saab's, Nissan's and Toyotas and watching you working with these old Volvo's, reinforces the feeling that all cars are shit :D. Just different areas where they shine (or suck). It's just the non-car people who feel they have to fight witch one sucks more.

Ooo very nice! I usually complain about how modern cars use more plastic components instead of metal, but in this case, a plastic tank is a blessing!

I need to do this on my 85 and I'm dreading it! The fuel pump keeps dying and the sending unit barely works. I have a feeling the inside of the tank looks like hell since it sat for over 10 years.

Mine looked like the Grand Canyon inside. I bought an aftermarket new tank for about US$200. Straightforward job, except the seal for the filler pipe gave me fits getting connected. I coated the tank's exterior with undercoating material before I installed it. Good Luck!

my '97 940 turbo wagon's fuel gauge never drops below 1/4 of a tank. Caught me out recently when i ran out of gas. Then when you fill up it takes a little while, and some corners/bumps before the gauge reads full again. Think the sender is getting wedged stuck when it drops to 1/4. Got any ideas on unsticking it, or is it a replacement sender unit?

E10 has been used here in the US for years. It is no fun working with anything that has been sitting with E10 in the tank/carb for years. An ultrasonic cleaner is so helpful
