Some scholars think that the praetorium was at the Herodian palace at todays Jaffa Gate. That would make the Via Delarosa the wrong route. Others say Pilate was in any case more often than not based in Caesarea (where the Pilate inscription was found). Current tradition puts Pilate in the Antonia Fortress does it not?

Be very careful making any purchases from the store "The Palace" at Via Dolorosa No, 6. I purchased a rug but before it shipped to me, I asked for a refund. Herod, the owner, game me his word that I would be able to return the rug and get a refund. That did not happen. Herod shipped me the rug and then refused to accept the return. Moreover, he lied about the it being a customs issue. Herod kept promising me that he will find a solution and offer a refund. This never happened and Herod stopped responding to my messages. While Herod is a very nice man when you meet him in the store, all he cares about is getting your money. He promises great customer service, but that ends once he charges your credit card. There are so many better places to shop in Jerusalem.
