Fun fact: During production for the film, retired longtime film star Hedy Lamarr sued Warner Bros. for $100,000, charging that the film's running parody of her name infringed on her right to privacy. Brooks said that he was flattered and chose to not fight it in court; the studio settled out of court for a small sum and an apology for "almost using her name." Brooks said that Lamarr "never got the joke." This lawsuit would be referenced by an in-film joke where Brooks' character, the Governor, tells Hedley Lamarr that "This is 1874; you'll be able to sue HER."

I find the way Lamarr cares for his underlings oddly heartwarming. He lets them speak up when they have an idea, and genuinely considers them. He shows concern when he realizes they've been injured, and expedites the execution of the one that caused it. And he comforts him when he's startled.

Well, actually, no, it couldn’t, because, first of all, Mel Brooks would sue you for stealing his movie, and secondly, the Western is a dead genre so there’s no point in spoofing, but what I mean is the word isn’t ‘too PC’ for it. Probably because the network was afraid of all the snowflakes in TV land getting offended and suing them.

@@joshuabrooks4907 No, because the LOCAL STATIONS who carried were worried about their regular license renewal scrutiny from the FCC. Think it through - big TV network supported local station, all the lawyers in the world, as if the "snowflakes" would/could bring some sort of suit which wouldn't get thrown out of court or effectively stomped with threats of counterlawsuits FROM the big network supported local station supposedly being sued. BUT - when it comes to license renewal you have to get past Congress and rival networks are more than willing to make THAT more difficult to competitors - to the point of lobbying relevant Representatives with "complaints" about racy television. That's how it works. "Snowflakes in TV land" live in your head rent free.

@@jkorshak Are you implying the "FCC" is not a big part, of what goes on, in TVLAND of the Lost Land Snatch? Hey, was not "TVLAND of the Lost Land Snatch" a "Before and After" Puzzle, on "The Wheel of Fortunate Land Snatchers"? A "Land Snatch" sounds like a Hybrid Crotch Louse. Show me your Land Snatch and i will show you mine. If your Snatch Lands on "Go to Jail", i am not Bailing your Snatch, out. My Land Snatch snatched my Wallet. Did i mention "Snatch." Suck it, FCC. Oh, they tricked me.

The horse being executed along with the rider is such a small thing, but so very funny at the same time. Nothing is said about it. It's just put out there for you to notice, and say, OMG--that is so wrong, so why am I laughing like a hyena at it?

How can anyone dislike any clip from this classic? I guess someone who is completely lifeless with no sense of humor anymore. Me, on the other hand, I laugh until I can’t breath every time I watch this classic.
