For those who are wondering how Kratos can hit Heimdall: Even though Heimdall can read minds, his body can't react as fast as his mind, plus his has to use some time to think of a dodge appropriate to his target in mere moment. And Kratos, being a warrior that he is, adapted quickly and swings faster on each stun to the point that Heimdall's mind can no longer keep up with the predictions.

At 2:25 he swings wildly as to get a feel for Heimdals movements and timing Then 2:47 he slowly gets more used to his movements and manages to force him to block Finally, 3:41 knowing he can pressure Heimdal enough to force him to block instead of evading his hits, Kratos starts to attack Heimdal with more precise blows, leading up to Kratos reading his attempt to block like last time, and instead catching his arm before promptly rocking his jaw. His last attempt was more light jabs that properly wouldn't do much, but it hid his plan as Kratos definently thinks faster then Heimdall, especailly when Heimdall is obsessed with dodging every attack. Finally he grabs Heimdall at the only moment heimdall would allow contact and then pulled Heimdall towards himself to land a hard hit straight to his face. genius chereography on display here

I mean it kind of makes perfect sense why Heimdall and Baldur acted the way they did towards Kratos. In THEIR REALM they are completely unstoppable. Given seemingly invincible powers by the oldest gods of their lands (Freya and Odin), they have spent a hundred or more years untouched by every living and nonliving around them because of their powers. And this random dude called the "God of War" from Greece comes to your home acting all tough with crazy stories of killing gods. I would want to put him in his place too. Obviously that doesn't excuse the fact that Heimdall acted like a complete idiot, and Baldur just generally being mentally gone, but if you look at the events unfolding from their perspective it makes it a little easier to see why they would act the way they do.
@TheKing-qz9wd2 жыл бұрын
@@gregoryent See the points at which I'd reconsider my choices in their shoes was the first neck snap on Baldur and the first sucessful punch on Heimdall. @@TheKing-qz9wd Now that I understand, but the game addresses it somewhat. Both of them comment on how long it’s been since they’ve had a real challenge, Heimdall comments it’s been a long time since he’s even felt pain. However we are talking about Gods, not humans. They think, wrongly, that they are somewhat immortal and unkillable. Normal people would hesitate when met with their circumstances, and act calmer and more rationally, but we’re talking about violent gods here. So the suspension of disbelief is easy enough for me at least.

I heard somewhere in Everybody Hates Chris that the best rule in combat is to know your enemy’s strengths as well as their weaknesses. In EHC, it referred to revenge, but it also applies here, too. And in Kratos’ case, it makes sense; you’re right when you say that he adapts to his opponents, and since he has pretty stellar combat IQ, he knows what to expect when to expect it at any given time, and he’ll even knock his opponents down a few pegs once he knows what makes them tick. In the case of Kratos against Heimdall, it was definitely making it so that Heimdall’s senses would be broken. Kratos is pretty intelligent for a demigod.

Draupnir in phase two represents both his spartan discipline and tactical brilliance and his gratitude towards the dwarves, a people that the Aesir have always undermined and subjugated. Fitting that it breaks the spirit of the Aesir’s most arrogant god. The Blades of Chaos in phase three represent his blind rage; the god slaying monster he once was and almost became again during the last stages of the fight.

Your mastery of the fight is spectacular to witness. The gods speaking like californians and the achievements popping up mid fight less so.

They're speaking with the best accent in the world - Californian. You should be grateful to hear it.
@goji2532 жыл бұрын
Well at least the brits had norse occupators. Hell scotish accents could have been great. The obvious choice would be picking scandinavian, norwegian or hell maybe even german accents. You know, places where these myths actually came from or got told in. West-American accents are kinda out of place.
@samurai154012 жыл бұрын
@@goji253 Accent comes from English not being your primary language and breaking orthodox pronunciations rules of the language . Now since this is a game about literally GODS it hardly make sense what accent they would have since english did not exist at that time. So let us assume they have complete proficiency over the language therefore they have dialects (like dwarves speak different from elves ) but they don't have accents.
@goji2532 жыл бұрын
@@samurai15401 Following the baseline that none of them have any accents known to us, they'd not have a Californian one either though. Picking one is simply an immersion thing. We already suspend our disbelief with all of them speaking English, but we wouldn't be understanding any of it otherwise. Using accents that more properly link to real word cultures we'd associate with Norse mythology can provide a bit of an anchor to make things feel more real.

2:12 That collision is so badass, I love how in that moment it feels like Kratos opens the faucet ever so slightly on his rage and power, just enough to manhadle the huge beast and throw it to the floor like it's a kitten.

My favourite scene in the game especially with the music in the back. Encapsulates Kratos perfectly, gets knocked down, bull rushes you to put you on your ass after. I can imagine him instinctively saying to him "A spartan never lays on his back!" before getting back up

Did you guys realize that the moment heimdall grew his hand back, kratos take a punch that threw him away. But the moment he choked him to death, kratos didn't even flinch. And heimdall said monster because he can read kratos mind. Damn kratos really smesh him good 😂😂😂

2:21 I truly hate Heimdall for doing that. It's been implied that he's an asshole to everybody because of his foresight powers, he can tell who is lying to him or to themselves. But Gulltoppr was an animal, his own loyal steed. It did not deserve being kicked like that.

"Completely giving away your position" I find this line significant, because his power of foresight should have informed him that their intent is to alert their allies, but he either isn't aware or doesn't think it significant. Heimdall's ability, omni-awareness, is nearly completely negated by his ego. He could be the strongest of the Norse gods, if he just once, considered a perspectibe that wasn't his own.

the fact that this is literally one of the most if not the most tamest kratos kills speaks volume on how much kratos is holding back and how much he have changed during the events of ragnarok, heimdall's death is the most tamed death or probably just second to baldur of which died because kratos gave his neck a quick snap.
