The twist of the mother, you must remember when it came out, nobody knew who Jason was, so it wasn't really a twist.

I saw this movie when it came out at an outside (Drive-in) Theater surrounded by woods in Arkansas.When the cool wind blew after dark, you felt like you were in it but with real chills.

Jason was definitely never intended to be alive which I think is why you have the last scene of the cops telling her there was no boy. People were actually pretty against it, Tom Savini even turned down doing the second one because it "didn't make sense." So he did part 4 instead which is the first of two movies with "Final" in the title, neither of which were the final films.

The one thing that I found kind of ridiculous about Mrs Voorhees, is that she pulls off these almost improbable kills, including placement of the bodies, and she winds up bitchslapping Annie like they were in a barroom brawl! :-D

Halloween was the one that started the slasher craze. It came out two years before this in 1978.

I am admitting how ancient I am, but yes, I saw this in the theater when it premiered and oh my god…the audience had a collective nervous breakdown, haha. We had never seen anything close to this back in 1980. Fantastic crowd experience and a great memory. 😎👍

If you really pay attention to the characters shown having interactions with the killer, you'll realize it's not Jason killing in this first movie. The killer in this movie, is someone who people are letting their guard down around. Barry and Claudette, the couple from the beginning, are shown as being focused on trying to let this unseen person know that they weren't doing anything, because they thought they were just gonna be getting reprimanded for sneaking away to fool around. Annie, the first present day victim, is shown to happily chatting away with the killer, not realizing the danger she's in until the unseen person zooms past the turn off to the camp. Steve Christy is seen greeting the unseen killer like an old friend, showing concern for the person being outside in the bad weather. Even Alice, our final girl here, was starting to let her guard down around the killer, until the killer lets the mask of feigned concern for Alice slip off. Nobody was ever letting their guard down around big hulking Jason, however, with this first killer, she was so unassuming, that everyone thought they were safe around her until it was too late.

The Snake was real, that scene wasn't even in the script, they just saw a Snake that had got in the cabin and quickly did a scene around it. Poor Snake 🐍

Not only was the snake real, it was someone's pet. That person lent it to the F13 production crew not knowing that it was gonna get killed for real.

This type of film was still pretty new in the 80s. Critics HATED them all except for Halloween. I saw this in the theater. The audience reactions then were extreme compared to today. Jump scares and horror tropes weren't "a thing" yet. The Final Chapter (Part 4) is my favorite. Best last girl was Ginny from Part 2.

My favorite horror movie franchise. The first four are the best in the series. When it was released there was a lot of talk about the scariest movie ever. One theater paid a lucky ticket holder to watch it alone in the theater.

Friday is the inverse of Psycho. In Psycho the son kills for the mother who inhabits his body. In Friday the mother kills for the son who inhabits her body.
@scottarooni
@scottarooni 3 жыл бұрын
If you continue to watch the "Friday the 13th" series, you'll see that the endings of the first three films are dream sequences. In this film, it is established that Jason drowned in 1957 and the film takes place in 1980. Therefore, Jason would be a full-grown man in his 30's; he wouldn't be a boy jumping out of the lake. That scene was definitely Alice's nightmare. As others have said in the comments, sequels were never intended, so when Part 2 came out, Jason's being alive doesn't really make sense. Betsy Palmer herself said that she doesn't know who is going around killing all these people because her son drowned. Palmer said that Mrs. Voorhees wouldn't have killed all those counselors if Jason was really alive. Anyway, audiences just accepted the fact that Jason grew up in the woods after "drowning" and went undiscovered for decades until he resurfaces in "Friday the 13th, Part 2." As they say, the rest is history!

Thank you some one else who understands. The truth about this movie an the rest of this. Nonsensical movie franchise starting in part 2. Mostly people just go with what ever they see. They don't care about the facts in the movie or movie continuity at all.

@@83shadow3 When I re-read my comment along with your reply, I feel I need to state for the record that despite all the flaws, I still LOVE the "Friday the 13th" franchise as a whole. I grew up with these films and I always have a lot of fun watching them. I stand by my initial comment, as everything I said was true; however, it was my intention to give EPIC_FRODO a bit of clarity about the franchise, not critique the film. 😁

@@scottarooni I agree with you with both of your. Comments I also grow up with it an like the franchise. I thanked you because like me you can see. The flaws with it from the first movie to part 2 an so on. Because every franchise has its flaws. But most people don't want to see them or point them out. I never criticize it or any movie I just point out the facts about it. Because most people don't an the facts matter to the movie. Like how you point out the facts of Jasons death. From the first movie an what Palmer said about Miss.Voorhees. She wouldn't of killed all of those counselors if Jason was really alive. If he was missing she would keep looking for him till she found her son. Not go on an start killing people. She would want to find her son.

This movie was made as a stand alone movie. No sequel was never planned to give you a answer about the. Ending in the audio commentary with the director an crew of the movie. They say Jason popping up from the water at the end. During the pecfull calm music was one last jump scare. Thats it it was a dream only because Jason Voorhees died like his mother said in the movie. He drowned in the lake then they dragged his dead body out of the lake. That's why there was no boys body in it when they looked. After she said he grabbed her because it was all in her head. About how Jason Voorhees became the killer in the unplanned sequel. Friday the 13th part 2 thats simple movie studio interference. The movie studio said we want a sequel an Jason Voorhees as the killer. In which the director of this movie said what are you talking about. Having Jason Voorhees as the killer that makes no sense. Because it was made perfectly clear in the first movie that Jason Voorhees died long before the first movie. He drowned an died in Crystal Lake like his mother said in the first movie. He was never in the first movie in the first place. So how am I supposed to bring back someone who was never alive in the first place. Then Tom Savini said why would Jason Voorhees be in the sequel. When he died as a kid an was never in the first movie in the first place it makes no sense. So instead of working on Friday the 13th part 2 . Tom Savini went to work on the movie The Burning instead. So the soul reason that Jason Voorhees is known as the killer in the Friday the 13th movies. Is because of movie studio interference an them not ether understanding. That fact that Jason Voorhees died as a kid like his mother clearly stated in the first movie. That or they just didn't care about the facts of the first movie. Then wanted a typical slasher killer in the unplanned sequel. A Michael Myers copy if you will. Just to make movies to get more money wich is. The most likely case it was all about the money for the movie studio. So who cares if the movies completely ignores the simple fact that. Jason Voorhees died as a kid before the first movie. When the movie studio can just act like that never happened. Then bring him back just to make more money. This is why movie studio interference is a bad thing. This is a prime example of how bad it can be. Because the movie studios interference completely undermines the. Directors an script writers original intention of the movies they made an make. Because Friday the 13th is about a mothers psychotic break after her son dies. Because the people that whore supposed to be watching him. Wanted to go foul around instead this movie is. A reverse take on the movie Psycho. Whare the son was killing an acting as his dead mother. But in this movie the mother was killing an acting like the dead son. But by the movie studio interfering then going its going to be. All about Jason Voorhees know even tho he died. As a kid wich is the main plot point of the first movie because that's why Miss. Voorhees. Went insane in the first place but. We as the movie studio know batter. So who cares about the stories that the directors an script writers. What to say or have said even if it completely ignores an contradicts. Every thing in a previous movie. Even if it completely undermines it. We the movie studio know better then the actual movie creators and directors. Even though we just handle the money .

Want to see a horror movie that is the most walked out of film ever. About 20 minutes from the 90% of audience members get so creeped out that they leave. Movie theaters that showed it turned on the light at that point so people fleeing the movie don't trip and fall. See if you guys are man enough to sit through it. It is J Horror it is called The Audition

This was supposed to be one like Halloween a d that's it but of course it did so good they wanted to do more. That's why some people didn't come back for sequel like I think savni. He thinks the sequels are dumb cause he just did first one and they think Jason is dead he drowned so him coming back or never crowned I guess is dumb to him lol. HR had pick between part two ANF something else and picked that lol. Jason was never supposed to be the killer originally. That was just a jump scare or dream. Not real in original.

Saw this n theater at 9 yrs old. Monster film classics like Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman & Mummy still pretty big & shown on regular TV often b4 vcrs & cable, but nothing scared me till hitchhiker killed by maniac n the woods here! N those days since only had 3 channels & off by midnight, a lot of movie trailers didn't show or tell hardly anything & was big event-like Star Wars "E.S.B.", NOBODY told Vader was Luke's father,...NOBODY!!! Every1 was n on surprise! Since everybody eventually saw 4 themselves, spoiling it was taboo! This like Star Wars too, n that nobody knew what 2 expect, then Part 2 was excellent & better sequel. Saw up 2 Part 3 w/ 3-D glasses n theater then thought was stupid like monster movies. Tho yrs later can say Part 4 is pretty good! ✌ ❤ 🚬
