The Winchester Model 61 pump action rifle was introduced in 1932 and was a popular favorite of American shooters until it was discontinued in 1963.

I inherited my fathers Remington Fieldmaster pump many years ago. It was manufactured in 1936 with a vert low serial number, 2xxx. To this day it is still my favorite rifle and I have a whole safe full of them. It is also a 14 round capacity and is very accurate.

This sure chokes me up. My Dad passed in 2016 at 88 years old. His tales of depression era Wisconsin were bittersweet. He never bought a new 22 as a kid. Saved his money til there was just enough when his Dad "needed" it for something else. He did get a Tom Mix Special Stevens Crackshot on a trade though. Hunt, fish and trap was his youth. Came home from the army in 1947 to no guns. His Dad needed money again. I spent a lot of driving my Dad fishing his last good 10 years and we talked a lot in the car. End result was Dad knew his hardships molded him into the man that we called "Dad". Dad's legacy was 5 children that are all respectable hard working Americans. I do wish I had the model 63 Winchester he bought new. RIP-- Dad your memories live in me and I pass them to my Grandson in the fishing car.

Happy Christmas from Australia to my friends in the USMC. I have my father’s beautifully kept 1936 Model 61. My father would take three lads from the 11th Regiment, First Marine Division hunting rabbits at my mother’s family farm outside Ballarat. My grandparents billeted the young men for most of 1943, following the savage Guadalcanal campaign.

Stu art, that red checked jacket is known, in this part of the country, as a “Pennsylvania Tuxedo”. It is a Woolrich jacket and during the 40’s and 50’s, you weren’t a deer Hunter unless you wore a Woolrich plaid jacket and matching plaid Woolrich pants!

Thanks for the memories!!! I grew up in Texas in the 50s and 60s with Winchester .22 repeaters (several different model including 61s, 62s and 63s). My best friend and later my best man had a model 61, the very best .22 in the neighborhood!!! Rabbits, squirrels, skunks armadillos, crows, turtles, water moccasins, etc. were common pray. What a walk down memory lane!!! -Ray

My 61 was bought by my dad new in 1940. He used it only occasionally. Gave it to my in 1963 an I have cherished it. I put, perhaps 100-250 rounds through it yearly. Still shoots great and can hit a 2" target at @ 50 yards with the open sights. GREAT FIREARM!

We have a Winchester model 61M in 22 magnum. It has been in my wife's family since 1960 and is in excellent condition. My father in law was more of a fisherman at the time he was given it by my mother in law. It sat in the closet most of it's life. We have not shot it in 25 years or more. We also have my late father in laws first year Ruger Super Single Six convertible in 22lr and 22mag given to him by his second wife. The cylinder for the Ruger that uses 22 magnum shells has the flutes machined into it unlike the current models that are unfluted. The model 61M and the Ruger were given to my wife by his third wife when he passed away. It is fired every few years.
