My Grandpa taught me how to shoot on the 61 a long time ago. When he passed away in 1967, he hand down the rifle to me. Today, I'm teachin' my grandsons how to shoot on the same. It still shoots straight!

Bought mine from a pawn shop maybe 30 years ago. It had been drilled and taped and a Weaver scope was mounted on it so it had been devalued. Hog wash! That thing shoots perfect! One of my prized possessions.

My dad gave me a model 61 22 & 22 MAG set when I graduated High School. He purchased them from an estate sale when I was a little kid. I grew up shooting them and I still take them out of the safe a couple times of year to shoot them. They are my favorite two rifles. My 22 MAG has the grooves for a scope. Got a Simmons 3-9x32 rimfire scope for it on sale at cabelas. My daughter will inherit these when it's time.

My father bought me a used model 61 in 1975 when I was 9 years old. He has another model 61 that my grandfather bought for him in 1942 when my dad was 6 years old, and that model 61 wasn't new either. Both of us still have our model 61s (my father is 88 years old). I recently started teaching my 10 year old son to shoot (my wife and I had him late in life). I bought a Henry lever action 22 with which to teach my son to shoot, but he greatly prefers my model 61. Very fond memories shooting my model 61, and hopefully many more to come.

I have a 1959 Model 61. I learned to shoot on it when I was a kid and inherited it when my Father passed. I can't find a ton of info on it yet... it seems to have some sort of dovetail looking scope mount with a Weaver B4 on it. It was my Dad's squirrel gun.. Mom didn't like the squirrels stealing the birdfeed lol. Great shooting rifle, just had it out today hitting 5" steels at 100yards no problem. Nice to see that it's a good one to have in my collection! I've always been nervous to do a full tear down on it.. but it's in need of a bit of love. Been used a lot over the years.

It is sad these rifles are not still made; the Remington is but, hard to find. What I see is a cool little rifle that resembles a model 12 shotgun. All steel and wood was once a sigh of quality and long lasting value. It still is in my thinking but, things change sometimes not so much for the better. 🔎🦉🔍

I have a hard luck Model 61 that had been reblued long before it was given to me. Someone managed to create a slightly perceptible wavy surface on top of the receiver. Since it had been altered from original, I went ahead and tapped it for a scope. With those bad things said, I have a rifle that performs flawlessly and looks stunning. I wouldn't have ever altered it from original if I had but here I am. Actually now that it's like it is, I wouldn't change it back. These just might (might) be the best production .22 ever produced if like me, you prefer hunting with older firearms.

Hey guys, New gun owner here. I am trying to separate the receiver from the trigger group. I don’t know when this gun was last disassembled but I have the slide forward, the action closed, and the hammer up (I have a model 61), and the takedown screw most certainly not hindering the takedown process (left side of receiver down) but it still won’t come apart. I fear I have put too much force already trying to take the gun apart and I don’t know which way to direct the force when taking apart the gun. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
