My idea is to rebuild before you drop a valve - dropping a valve is usually caused by an over speed- probably going down a hill with the Jake's on... when you look at the expense to go get a truck or a wrecker bill or a rebuild in some shop - the milage you give up by rebuilding before it breaks and on your own schedule doesn't make a hill of crap... you can standardize your fleet and have a couple of engines ready. You can change out and engine transmission/clutch in short order and have the machine back on the road before the driver gets done with his 34 hour reset... I used to have a few trucks and that is the way I took care of them so fix them before they break.. I used to change out an engine overnight when i would sell one - usually to a rock hauler. Two good guys and the right equipment and an engine change goes really quick... new mains and rod bearings - water pump and idler pulleys and oil pump at - rebuild turbo at 300k - takes about 12 hours. Main and rod bearings- water pump - oil pump - idler pulleys rebuild turbo - rebuild head pistons and liners at 600k - out of frame rebuild at 1 million miles - rebuild injectors at every bearing change. Replace transmission bearings at 600k. If you stay ahead of the major stuff so you dont break down on the road the savings will transfer directly to your bottom line.. there are industry averages on how long all these components last - use them - learn by other people's mistakes... it's cheaper then learning by your own mistakes...

That was a hell of a engine to go 1.3 million miles rebuild and go another 1.3 million miles with it . I read one comment that said you didn't do regular maintenance on the truck because it was dirty inside I told him it's going to be dirty inside it has 1.3 million miles

In-frame overhaul, that is a 2 day project maybe 3. I loved doing those when I work at a Detroit Diesel shop in FL. It is a lot easier when you are inside with an overhead crane to pull/install the head. Still got my tools, thinking about getting back into it.

We had an 89 chevy dump at work with the 7.4 a long time ago. It had something like a plastic anti drain back or bypass valve in the oil cooler outlet, the little plastic piece broke apart and ended up blocking a crankshaft bearing oil feed and killed the motor. Found it when I pulled it apart.

They're against Tim another good video I said I thought it had a hole in the piston and wasn't quite sure but I didn't know about the valve to but with that many miles on that truck it deserves to rebuild from the bottom to the top and then that way you know what you got in it new motor is good for a million more miles again can't wait for the next video may God be with you and your family

He can forget about those about numbers and get exact numbers lol that’s what I did before I started driving I’m actually licensed in Arkansas, Oklahoma and spent a time in Memphis and Louisiana doing hvac service and installation as well. Field piece are definitely worth the money. And definitely full rebuild on the coranado I love those trucks

Tim if you can get the parts, rebuild the series 60. This DD's are great highway engines. I worked for Kenworth here in Michigan for several years. Detroit's on the highway, Cat's hauling gravel and Cummin's for the in-between. FYI....not confirmed, but, I heard that the government is paying company's to destroy non emissions engines. This may be way parts are getting harder to find too. On a different note. There are a few places here in MI to check for parts and used engines. Grand Rapids: AIS engine Frontier truck Valley truck Kalamazoo: KMR - Kalamazoo metal recyclers Holland: K&R truck - International truck dealer, body shop, salvage yard. Hope this helps
