I bought my first 2 piece RoadCrafter from Andy over the phone in 1988. Size 38... I was 27, single and rode a black BMW R80 with an S fairing and bags. That bike took me all over the Western US and Canada, and my Roadcrafter served me in the desert, forests, high mountains and on the coast. Later marriage, kids and mortgage kept me closer to home, but I've always had an MC. One late October evening in 1998, I took the "long way" home from work through our local mountains in San Diego County. Going into a bumpy, damp right, I lost the frond end of my Ducati 900ss, fell hard and slid down the road 150', off the embankment and into a creek. The right shoulder, arm and leg of my Roadcrafter looked like someone took a torch to it, but other than a broken hand, I was completely unscathed. Now I'm 62 and will be retiring after 38 years as a small business owner. I picked up a new to me 2016 BMW R1200rs. I plan to get out and see the world again, and just ordered an R3, size 42 S. Thank you Andy, and thank you Aerostich.

It's not just produced, it's designed. Any mechanic that is constantly mad at the bad design of all the machines they work on can tell you how awesome it is when somebody designs something with not just function considerations but maintenance considerations. I'm not going to want to pay nearly two grand for a suit to not have it be repairable. Kudos to the Aerostitch crew for having a repair program. This video shows how much design consideration they have put into this suit over the years.

I’ve been wearing Aerostich garments for the past 30 years. They’re still my favorite protective gear. I also have some “designer” flashier stuff that I wear eventually, but the features and everyday usefulness of an R3 can’t be beat. This suit here, is the real deal.

I've got a very old Roadcrafter suit (late 80's) and also a Darien (early 90's I believe). After a break in period they are comfortable, indispensable and have worn like iron over the years. Best investment I ever made for riding gear. The R-3 looks great as all the stitch gear does and once again is well thought out and highly functional. Even though videos didn't exist back in the day and while much of what's shown BECOMES intuitive; I think this is a great idea to provide the design reasons and a great introduction for first time buyers. Keep up the great work ...

I love my R3. Been wearing it for about 3 years now. It’s great for temps from low 30s to triple digits. I just had it serviced after about 70,000 miles. New long zipper and resealed in crotch. Good as new. It’s my go to riding gear. Great product. Great people.

Very good presentation Andy. I had a Roadcrafter which I sold because it shrunk in the closet. Now I have a newer Roadcrafter and an R-3. I wear the 'crafter in the winter with electric gear and the R3 in the warmer months. Your W I D E selection of sizes plus your customization options add to the protection of your suits. Protection gear has to fit right to keep the protection features in place and fully functional. I cannot say enough about your gear, great fit, great protection. Some people may balk at the cost of your suits; but just compare prices for the cost of hospitalization, broken bones and skin grafts. Andy's products protect you from Wind, Rain, Sun and Pavement Rash. Well worth it.

This is great. I like understanding the possibilities of using my Aerostitch riding suit! This is like attending a "show and tell" presentation by Frank Lloyd Wright, explaining the new home he just designed for me! Thank you, Andy and Rick!

I've been using my Roadcrafter for over 17 years, and it may now be time for a new one. It's great to see that you are still in the game and have this new model. Hoping to order one soon. Greetings from Istanbul, Turkey!

I've had mine (same color combo as the one in the video) since November. Yesterday, I rode home from work and my Goldwing read the air temperature at 100F. I was warm but it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't get one in a dark color living in Southern California. That pocket on the right sleeve is a great place to put your wallet.

'Stich dudes! I've owned an r3 for over a decade and its the single best piece of kit I've ever owned (close second is your competition silk scarf). I wear it all the damn time and am eager to order a new one and give my old one to a budding new rider. Its built so tough my seamstress wife refuses to work on it. I've never gone down while wearing it but would trust it just as much as my comically expensive Japanese track leathers. Also, as an owner of an older designed suit, I'm really excited about the cell phone pocket. I've looked down so many damn times to see my phone hanging halfway out of that big pocket because I forgot to zip it up all the way. Finally, I always bring the main zipper to the crotch area instead of all the way up to the neck. Seem to work easier for me. YMMV.

I bought an R3 Light on sale (got lucky on the sizing!), and it is the best investment in my motorcycles outside of 4he bikes themselves. Andy is right, I do ride more, and that is a Good Thing!

I bought a hi viz Roadcrafter Classic in 2009 and I still wear it. I also have a Roadcrafter light. Now my standard gear is the Revit Defender Pro. Having said that, I still love my Roadcrafters for short rides and commuting because I can wear street clothes under and just peel them off when I reach the office or wherever. There was a time when my two roadcrafters were my only gear and I have put many thousands of miles of commuting, touring, and camping on them. But the achilles heel of both the roadcrafter classic and roadcrafter light is that they much too warm in temperatures over 75F and it gets a lot worse if you are riding offroad/gravel roads at slow speeds where there isn't enough airflow through the vents.

Very interesting suit. It would help a lot if you could add metric units to the sizing charts on your online shop.

Great video Andy! I have owned at least two maybe three (I'm old) of your Darien jackets and pant outfits over the years. However I have been looking at your R-3 for some time now. I do have a question though. When you get to a restaurant and you take off the suit before going in, what do you do with the suit? Does it roll up small enough to fit into the travel trunk on a 2021 Gold Wing Tour? I have been riding for some 57 years now and have ridden in everything from t-shirt and jeans, back in the 60's to your Darien outfits as mentioned before along with some of the competition. I really like your gear due to the fact it just works plain and simple. Let me know about folding up an R-3 suit. FYI- I am 6'2" tall and weigh about 240 pounds, so a large suit. Maybe you could do another video on how to fold up an R-3.

I'm in the process of buying an R3 and they sent me a suit to try on for sizing. It fits in the hard luggage on the side of my Triumph Tiger 1200 with room to spare. Not sure how big the travel trunk on the Gold Wing is, but my guess is it will probably fit.

What type of waterproofing does this suit use?
@aerostich

Along with using our waterproof TLTex fabric, we use seam-sealed waterproof zippers, as well as seam-sealing all of the stitches within the suit.

One thing that I am primarily concerned about is the waterproofness or the water resistantness of a garment. I don't think that I heard any about that here.

Thanks Andy - nice video. The suit has a lot of thoughtful features that work well, and although it feels heavy to pick up, once put on it's very comfortable. My major gripe is rain getting in and soaking the crotch area - any suggestions? (I've tried the recommended cleaning and re-waterproofing liquids, without success.) The FortNine video suggests it may be "zipper bulge" kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6GYlX-NfrCsmpo ...
