I just switched from Sony to Fuji so my lens selection is just starting out. I think I've gotten some great lens / focal length to start my weddings this year. 18mm 1.4 / 33mm 1.4 / 50-140mm 2.8 for my X-T5. 18-55mm lit lens for my X-T3 (stab) The X100iv should be here next week 😊

Pretty nice deal. I have the 56mm 1.2 Fuji lens, and though I like it, I have zero need for the 1.2. I never understood the obsession with ultra wide apertures. I shoot 90% of my work with it at F2 and up. I wish I bought this instead.
@doctorsnarf87648 ай бұрын
To be fair there is one huge upside on you having the 56mm F1.2 Fuji lens and that is sharpness. You get 100% sharpness at F2 with that lens on the other hand going out of the gate with 56F2 does not have the same sharpness, you need to step up to F4-5 to get the same results as the lower stop lens.
@urwholefamilydied8 ай бұрын
well shooting at night and being able to keep your ISO down. And getting really wacky with that bokeh. Those would be the two reasons to shoot f/1.2

The manual TTArtisan 50mm f/1.2 along with the 7Artisans 50mm f/1.8 and the 55mm f/1.4 are even more smaller than this and punches way above their prices as long as you don't mind not having autofocus (the TTArtisan especially). Although I got the TTArtisan 50mm f/2 (technically a "full frame" lens, but they made it for Fuji X mount as well), it's the smallest telephoto-ish lens that you can natively mount on the Fuji to date, almost pancake-sized. It's really flawed but it adds to the character of the lens, if all you want is a compact telephoto on Fuji it really can't be beaten in size.

140$ wow. I recently got this for the sony a6700 and i think its amazing! . but i paid 300$ i think. you lucky bastard! I should add , I was so blown away by the 56mm and went ahead and bought the 27mm and the two more expensive 1.2 lenses they make. Viltrox on the a6700 is pure bliss , autofocus is stunning and the look is fabulous. cheers

Seems like a real winner. Sharpness seems incredible for a lens this cheap. Better than Viltrox's previous 56, while significantly smaller. I just wish that more of these 3rd party Fuji lenses (heck, any of them really) could use the focus ring as an aperture ring when in AF modes. For me, that's kind of the only flaw with the lens, considering the price. Personally, I just got myself the 60/2.4, and don't regret it at all. Fairly cheap for a like-new used copy, and it's got an awesome build quality, decently compact, excellent rendering, but the big thing for me is the impressive close focus. While I don't really need full 1:1 macro, with "portrait" lenses I mostly don't actually shoot people but small things that happen to be around when I'm out walking. As such, the fact that it focuses significantly closer than Fuji portrait lenses (Fuji, Viltrox, Sigma, Samyang 50, 56, and 75mm offerings) goes a long way for me. Autofocus could be better, but it's fast enough for me, and just suits my needs more. Something like the Viltrox 75/1.2, which I know is optically excellent, is just bigger than I want and doesn't focus close enough. I'd rather trade off that very narrow aperture for a lot more compactness and a better minimum focus distance.

I bought this lens as soon as I heard about it. Have loved it, it's so light on my xt30ii and it's now my go to portrait lens.

I bought the TTArtisan 56mm/f1.8. It's performing way better than I expected, super sharp for portraits. The best part is, it was only $129!

Welcome to Seattle. Outside of the Pike Street Market the streets are empty. Was walking the downtown streets two weeks ago. During one period I didn’t see a person for two blocks. This was at 10 AM. I’ve been here 22 years. I keep reminding myself this is not NYC. Nowhere close. I already own the Fuji 56. Too late for me. I don’t want to duplicate a focal length I already own and don’t want to go through the effort of selling the glass I already own. Really like your image at 8:50. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

So this is basically a cheaper version of the viltrox 56 1.4? That one is pretty cheap too, made of metall and has an apperture ring, i guess a middleground between this one and fuji 56 1.2. Think i would rather have the 1.4 tho, its small too, not much bigger than the 1,7 i would guess
@drchtct7 ай бұрын
it's better optically than the 1.4 because it's a lot newer and they stepped up their quality a lot since the early 23, 33 and 56 lenses

Have you actually looked at the test results from various reviewers? These lenses are not in the same quality tier level. TTArtisan is blurry at the edges of the frame. The Viltrox is razor sharp to the edges of the frame. Try comparing Chrisopher Frost's videos or something. This is confirmed by the manufacturer's MTFs. Also read Philip Reeve's reviews for each lens. He shows that the Viltrox's bokeh is smoother and the TTArtisan has distracting bokeh busyness problems in transition zones at mid to long distances.
