The water you were flying over was the Colorado River. It forms Arizona's western border and flows through the Grand Canyon. Lake Havasu is a Riviera style town purpose built by Robert P. McCulloch when he relocated his watercraft engine company from California. Fun Fact: The old London Bridge now calls Lake Havasu its home. When it was slated to be torn down and replaced, McCulloch thought that buying it would help attract new residents to Lake Havasu and expand from a tiny company town to an real river city. He was right. After being relocated and erected its been a great tourist attraction and by doing so got more people to like Lake Havasu enough to leave where they were and move there.
