GS I looked up the protocol for the use of AGM-88 and what targets it will be able to go after easily, and it does indicate that the missile can be fired at a valid airborne emissions target, like an AWACS. The "Magnum" call would be the same whether it's fired at a ground or air target, so you're correct to use it here despite firing entirely at airborne targets. The intent of the callout is to indicate what payload is in the air, and what it's attracted to, so that friendly air assets in the region can fly appropriately. If there was, say, an EA-18 Growler in a static holding pattern not pulling Gs, the AGM-88 might be able to take it out. Likewise, an EA-18G successfully took out a Houthi Mi-24 Electronic Warfare Asset just 2 weeks ago using an AGM-88 while the helicopter was airborne.

This was epic! Loving the overmatched series! Tho not a 30 or 35, I think you had a decent shot at this - but with him going cold and whatnot- you needed to set him up to fail- like go off to the side, his AWACS would have him come your way- you shoot a Magnum from long range- THEN duck behind a tall mountain- and he'd have no clue. Key would be shooting from far so he didn't shoot and crank away- Also, giving him a signal then hiding behind mountains so he gets way closer- then either waiting till he goes by, and hitting him with ETs, OR popping up briefly and using the anti rads, then hiding again- if he's too slow, he'll see you dissapear and won't crank away And if he gets close- we already saw, like a year ago or so, you do that series of fights raptor vs flanker where you used the cobra to one turn kill raptors- so you've got close range down to a T against raptors...though Toxic might remember that lol Day 105 / Video 53 of asking for ya to get some seat time in the Mig 31 , we haven't seen ya do that! Though you gotta get used to it, i dont think starting out with the foxhound in the overmatched series is the best way to learn it lol - though it could work with the right tactics(partially cheesy admittedly)- as even Raptors can't go Mach 3.....and R-37's from Mach 3 and 80,000 ft are deadly ....(though not sure if the Electro optical system will find a raptor from that high up- but HIS radar won't be elevated to be looking for you at that altitude , also- so.....Foxhound is the king of stealth, flying near 100k?)

7:24 I would argue it's technically a Fox-1 Semi-Active Radar Guided Missile. It's entirely dependent upon the target being illuminated with radar, the only difference is that it's dependent upon the target illuminating itself with radar, rather than being radar-painted by the attacking aircraft.
@GrowlingSidewinder6 ай бұрын
looool so harms are also fox1s ? because the SAM is technically illuminating itself ? the logic needs some work my dude.
@Fryguy1016 ай бұрын
@@GrowlingSidewinder Nope, because a HARM isn't air-to-air. Fox is NATO brevity code for air-to-air. So as the one we're talking about is air-to-air, within Fox-1 (Semi-active Radar), Fox-2 (IR Guided), and Fox-3 (Active radar guided), it most closely matches Fox-1. Unless and until NATO creates Fox-4 for 'passive radar guided', it's the best I got.
@GrowlingSidewinder6 ай бұрын
@@Fryguy101 ya but we can make things up, but what's the closest thing that exists today....for a missile that hunts radiation ? of course given the opportunity a new code would be assigned in real life, and it would probably have a fox designation I'm just trying not to make things up and use the already existing logic. Btw fox4 already exists it what they use to call guns. So even with that logic maybe you have go to fox5
@Fryguy1016 ай бұрын
@@GrowlingSidewinder Sure, Magnum works also, but the entire point of brevity codes is to build situational awareness. Fox-1 gets across that you're firing air-to-air, which I'd argue is the more important distinction. Of course, in DCS there's nobody else who needs to hear it so it's moot. I just thought it was a fun exercise to work out which of the existing Fox-# it would be.
