The Legendary Edition did wonders for Mass Effect. Cut my play time in half from 60 hours to 30. The combat is so much faster now, also sprinting actually makes you move faster I think + the Mako has a damn nitro boost now lol Btw, Jennifer Hale does a wonderful job as Shepard. Probably my all time favorite voice actress. The Renegade options are especially cold compared to Mark Meer.

Ooh, Mass Effect! I like to play what I think of as Firefly Shep; a total smart alek to everyone around him/her that isn’t on the crew (plus Jacob), but not outright genocidal like you can be in ME3. It’s fun to be the sarcastic superjerk that saves the galaxy.

This is the reason why I mod myself to have max renegade and paragon points in all of the games. I like being able to pick whichever option fits the character and have the chance to play a more grey character without being penalised for it via the bizarre morality system.

God I love this game. The entire series is very dear to me but 1 has the best atmosphere in terms of the places you visit. Something about it really sells a kind of horrifying, unknowable threat that's hard to explain. Then 3 has my favorite gameplay, some of the best enemy factions ever put into a video game and all the abilities just slap.

remember playing this game whilst living on the most remote australian outback farm you could imagine, on a laptop that had as much video memory as a block of tofu. The most i could get was 10 frames at a resolution of 640x480 or sum sht, but i persisted with it and had an absolute blast. one of the best trilogies in video game history for sure. i even think mass effect 3 is a lil underrated just because people didn't like how subversive the ending was i suppose.

Your experience with Mass Effect is almost identical to mine played them all on launch without DLC as a Paragon BroShep only difference is I moved over to Vanguard in 2&3 instead of sticking to Soldier. Also have watched some LPs over the years. Last time I played (ten years ago or so) I too went with a Renegade leaning FemShep except I went full on caster with Sentinel and it was *glorious* so much fun using all the different powers! Alas at the time I only had access to the first game so never got to finish it. Renegade can be pretty fun though in the first game it does lean a bit too much on the anti alien rhetoric for my liking.

About the camouflage not being a thing in the future: I can't remember if it was codex or some random dialogue, but basically with sensor tech and integrated HUDs, just the optical camo no longer cuts it on the battlefield? If they know you're here, they can detect you anyway. And if you don't want to be detected, you probably get the full package that makes you invisible anyway (like Infiltrators in later games)

One interesting thing I found out. Akin to Bloodlines, Mass Effect has a TTRPG esque mechanic in terms of gunfire. IE your spread, accuracy, damage, etc is determined by your skill in said firearm.

Nice to see you playing this! :) Also, you are one of the very few male KZbinrs/Streamers whom I enjoy watching when you play female characters. Unlike far too many, you aren't uncomfortably gross, creepy or disrespectful. While it's true that Vanguard really comes into its own in later games, biotics of any sort are just stupidly overpowered in ME1. A combination of Lift, Throw, and explosive rounds can essentially send enemies into orbit. Also Rend is excellent for dealing with annoying enemies that have Immunity (when the health bar turns white and they stop taking damage), like krogan.

Ah, ME1. A perfectly fine game. I'm very glad I didn't play it on release. 0:41 I noticed that with Dragon's Dogma, too. Something about console games from this time or something. They scream at you until you load the main menu. 1:07 That was my experience with ME2, sort of. I played right after I beat ME1. Don't know how far I made it, don't care, won't touch it again. Too many things that felt anti-rpg, which was why I was there. 6:55 I think I went Colonist, Ruthless (maybe Sole Survivor?) Soldier. 12:08 Ah, one thing ME will always have: better Carth. 30:40 Was his jaw-quiver in the original? 32:42 Imo, it still holds up. I played the 2007 version in 2019. 35:06 "Jenkins" is a cursed name in video games. 36:24 It'd be really funny if his name was "Wallace A. Jenkins" 43:38 Ashley! :D 45:12 Yea, that was a huge turnoff for me. Felt like they skinned an RPG and made something wear it like a costume. 51:04 I do really like that level up sound. 56:16 Turian armor? Game, spoilers! 1:00:25 I love characters like Manuel here. 1:03:11 Nihlus, you were a bit trusting. 1:03:28 You know, I never stopped to look at the ship, I just kept legging it. In hindsight, I don't know how to feel about that decision. 1:06:32 Even just after one game, there's a lot of "oh shit, really?" moments already. It's like rewatching a movie or show and spotting tiny details. 1:13:19 One of the many times Ashley makes me smile. 1:16:51 My only issue with it was actually the controls being insane. 1:18:47 One thing I just realised that amuses me: playing as FemShep means constant armoured sideboob. I'm sure some people enjoyed that way too much. 1:24:19 I wouldn't mind the loot spam if you had infinite storage space. I discovered rather rudely on a mission that there's a behind-the-scenes carry cap for your ship, and if you hit that cap, you are forced to reduce stuff to omnigel. 1:28:43 I would, but I never remember to. It's always after the action I'm like "that would've made great screenshots..."

oh heck yeah!! Also a sidenote about ME2, you don't actually need to go 100% paragon or renegade, I think they made it a bit more forgiving in the LE? I remember it being a lot more unforgiving in the original version. I usually play with mostly paragon and a bit of renegade and I haven't had any problems in LE ME2.

33:01 DAO started development in 2002 probably on a fork of Aurora engine Bioware used for NWN. I remember seeing some of the corpses in that game being the exact same as the ones in Kotor. It already being dated graphically and the make everything brown so common of the era leaves it as a pretty ugly game without any mods.
