Lemon balm in iced tea is the best!
@lennapelayo32525 жыл бұрын
It's a lemon balm oil like a tea or is it chopped up fresh in the tea that you make
@alexreith48775 жыл бұрын
Lenna pelayo I use fresh lemon balm from my garden and add it to the tea while it's brewing. I don't bother picking the leaves off the stems, I just wash it and add enough to fill a quart size canning jar, then pour over the hot water to steep along with 3-4 tea bags and as much sugar as you like. Once it's steeped I strain it into a pitcher full of ice. I sometimes make it without the tea bags for a caffeine free drink, which is also nice and refreshing. Lemon balm grows back so fast you can have tea all summer long.

You can make your own mouth wash with the mint. Get a bottle of alcohol add equal parts water and alcohol and wash your mint, drop about 15-20 leaves in. In just a few days you have some very good mouthwash.

Dont know how great this idea would be, but you could plant things along that fence that your chickens can snack on from the other side. It would provide a little shade for your flock and a bit of a snack everyday.😊🐓🌿

Planting on one side where the chickens can reach but not kill is a great idea & something we here. But I have pots & just turn them every few days! Keeps the chickens so healthy & busy that I don't mind if we get nothing from them!

Jess, mint pesto is so delicious. 4 cups Mint, 2-3 cloves garlic, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (optional), juice and zest of a lemon, 1/2 cup olive oil or more, salt and pepper. Really yummy. Whirl it up in food processor and freeze in ice cube trays. It is very good with fettuccine and peas or asparagus. Thanks for the lovely video. ❤️

the large (like livestock) buckets works well for potatoes and it is easier to sift for potatoes. given all the growth that doesnt get used (eg the vine stems of tomatoes, beans etc) you really should make your own compost - check out geoff lawtons chicken tractors - he is able to feed his chickens without any grain and get better egg production

I tend to be a rebellious gardener. When I'm told don't plant this next to that... I plant it anyway, and prove it to myself. The last few years I have tried to companion plant as well as possible, but somehow missed the sunflower and bean rule. Last year I had them in rows next to each other (within 4 to 6 feet), and did not have any issues with either. The beans produced very well, but started late, and the sunflowers grew taller than normal, and had beautiful blooms. Hate to hear about the eggs.

Along the chicken yard side, what about a new bed for new things( from Baker's creek, etc), or perhaps beans for shelling. Or starting sprouts to feed the chickens ( chicken treats), or flowers( sunflowers, flowering vines -nasturtiums, etc.
@suzannewalsh725 жыл бұрын
I think that possibly the reason for the thought about sunflowers and beans is because sunflower seeds are allelopathic. They suppress the growth of anything around them so that they can grow, I don't know that this is specific to beans though, and since I've seen it mentioned that they can be added as a forth to the three sisters, which includes beans, this would suggest that there is a time limit on this. It's not something I have actually tried out though, but it makes sense that once the plant is older the beans could grow up them, which would explain why others have had success.

No more beds along the fence, to much cost to fill. Ground plant some blackberries, not raspberries they will spread into your garden. Or do the luffa up some vertical cattle panels along the fence.
@shirleycourtney11385 жыл бұрын
If you plan on raspberries you can push metal roofing or siding down about 24" to stop them from growing into the garden. It's also a great way to control the mint!

We use egg shells all around our beds. Rain doesnt have as much of an effect on shells like the other slug repellents. We also use them for chickens for calcium rather then buying in oyster shells. Something chicken proof. If your area is good for them and if you dont have a raspberry bed yet you could make a living fence of berries

Using cattle panel 4 to 6 inch opening along with the chicken fence about 2 ft wide, place potato s slices and cover with straw or hay just to the about 1 inch from the tops. As the potatoes grow add more straw or hay and just keep it going up. Then when you need potatoes you just reach in and pick what you need (clean). You'll be able to feel the size you'll want for what every dish you're wanting. As long as you continue the process you can grow potato 4 to 5 feet high. When you go to harvest them they are clean and ready to store. Have fun with it. Oh just water at the bottom.
