I live in germany, and Just to let you guys know about some of the different rules in germany when your at a junction and the light goes green to turn left or right, it also goes green for pedestrians and cyclists! Very important to remember. Also they have zebra crossings on the round about in germany so you have to take extra care as cyclists just come out of no where and cross really fast. Also the smaller roads that are 30 You have to give way to anyone that wants to pull out of a road on the left side

Liam @ 21:14, Just says it all. You have NO insulation between the Tongue 👅 & Groove and the Fibreglass roof,( reflexive bubble wrap doesn’t count as insulation). Question; “Is the whole roof just fibreglass, without any top foam insulation”? Ideally, on the roof, its best to have at least an inch(25mm) of foam insulation. If you have a Diesel heater, I would suggest using it at least at night, with your side windows cracked open to create an air flow. Happy travels…..

Hey guys. The best supermarket for value and choice in France is called Super U. It may be worthwhile trying to stick on Peage roads. They cost money, but they have very regular “aire” stops. You can park there, and there are loos. Often food etc. France is very well set up for camper vans. You just need to know what you’re looking for. Good luck!

Even houses have problems with condensation, not just motor homes, boats, caravans etc. Lots of heating and ventilation is needed. Janine is in the van with her coat on (even when you're driving around) so obviously there is not enough heat inside the van. Plus when cooking make sure you open a door or window.
@alanhat52522 жыл бұрын
cooking is particularly important as it makes lots of steam & the most obvious place for it to condense is above the cab where the bed is!

Water drips: Well observed & well analysed. My immediate thought is that extra insulation would help but not much because the problem is circulation of damp air as you say. (You can't have too much insulation though, particularly in a ceiling). I think you should see if you can tape-seal the insulation to the roof. Whether you can or not a length of silicon-rubber tubing (or foam rubber like car door seals) wedged all round into the gap will help block the airflow. Don't seal the wood till the middle of summer though or it will rot. Leave it as exposed as possible till then. You can see the wood has swollen so it's thoroughly wet. A few layers of Ronseal Wood Hardener or Sanding Sealer are better choices than oil for sealing because they don't need maintenance. Next, investigate what's happening under your mattress, you may well have a plywood floor absorbing water that also needs to dry out &/or a damp base to your mattress. You may want to try piping your heater under the mattress temporarily though watch it doesn't melt anything. Lighting your wood burner will help a lot, they're very good at drying vans out & if you can drape in some piping from on top of the bed to beside the burner where it catches the updraft will speed the process up.

I don't know if it's the answer, but, I would use a thick Bathroom Sealer right along the inside edging then push the frame onto it and secure.

Canadian living in the UK here. So I'm "bilingual" when it comes to driving. Try and remember that you want to drive "next to the curb". It also helps to literally say, "drive on the right hand side" out loud. I do that every time I make the switch. I find it takes me a couple of days to adjust when I go from one side of the road to the next. Even though I have done it so many times. I remember moving to the UK (25 years ago) and it took about two weeks before I was 100% comfortable. But after that - no worries. In fact, when you come back to the UK, you will need a couple of days to adjust back. Our brains undo lifelong habits pretty quick when it comes to driving! You are lucky to have Jeanine to help out as driving a UK car without a passenger is next level. Passenger is also handy for toll roads! But you got this. Get through the next couple of weeks and it will be plain sailing after that x

I've lived in France for 18 years, so giggled, in a nice way, at parts of your journey. Whoever fitted your skylight didn't do it properly. There should be a frame around the cut out sealed to the f/g roof and cladding. Your skylight should then be fitted inside that. Condensation will be a problem in cold weather if your skylight is single glazed. Cut something insulative, stiff enough to push into place to fit inside the skylight aperture, those jigsaw flooring tiles might work, or maybe cut up a yoga or camping mat.

You’ve gone through immigration in a big green Luton van signwritten as if it’s still a removals van, the side facing the immigration booth is the plain side without windows, and you’re surprised they thought it was a removal van full of furniture…..really! The van gives all the impression of being a plain removals van, especially from that side. I went through Dieppe in June on my way to Le Mans for the 24 hour race, I was in a motorhome with three friends and was towing a trailer. First the person at immigration couldn’t understand we were going to Le Mans for the 24 hour race, then she asked what was in the trailer and couldn’t understand when I told her it was camping equipment, a gazebo and a fridge. Or at least she gave the impression she didn’t understand. Maybe it was a Brexit reaction thing, I’ll never know! France is a lot bigger then England with a much smaller population, so except for the cities it always seems to be quiet and empty. I’ve gone through some villages and not seen a single person. By the way, Gazole is pronounced without sounding the e.

The Aires are very good where you can empty your toilet and fill up with fresh water . As for the issue with the sky light maybe fixing foam could be temporary but always when cooking inside have a window open . I very rarely cook in my van I do it all outdoors on a cadac . Have the best time both of you 🌈💕

In France, especially in rural areas many shops are closed on Mondays as they can only open for 6 days a week. So if they have been open on Sunday morning they will probably be closed on Monday, same goes for boulangeries but they can be other days in the week depending on how many there are in the villages as they organise it so there is always one open.

As a quick fix for your condensation issue, I would run a bead of expanding foam around the whole of the skylight perimeter. That should stop the buildup of water. To me that’s the simplest and quick solution. The good thing is, if it doesn’t work, there’s no harm done to the fabric of your skylight. You can just dig the foam out. Hope you sort it either way and it’s saves more time to drink in Munich!!!

I have just laughed so much because when Liam said that Janine had woken up with dripping on her head, I took it that he meant good old fashioned lard!😂. Thank goodness I’d misunderstood. My excuse is that I’m tired. Anyway, good luck with your travels. You are both really brave

Your drivers door to the kerb, that’s how I remember when driving abroad. It’s easy once you settle in.

I have heard that cats litter is effective for condensation, not personally tried it. It might worth giving it a go. Love watching your channel, you are an adorable couple. Good luck on travels in Europe. ❤️

Easiest way i have found when driving on the continent is just say to yourself - kerb is friend, if you are next to it in the drivers seat then you are on the correct side of the road. I still do it now and i learnt to drive in Germany!!!
