Foreigners buy an auto rickshaw whilst doing India travel 2023. We must be crazy right? Well this video explains how we did it:

We bought our tuk tuk (other name for an auto) in the Indian city of Chennai (formerly Madras), and we plan to travel across India in it - on our own self guided tour #India #RickshawLife

OUR HISTORY
We have been travelling for the last two years back in the UK in a converted camper van conversion. But during winter, when we had snow & ice, our campervan broke down and needed a new engine (and other parts). It was devastating news, so we decided we needed a break and that's when we left Britain and headed to India for the adventure of a lifetime.

I think in this video you said you went to a corner shop etc to get a local sim card. Can you tell me which one. Am I right that it was in Chennai. I have been trying to research this very issue as I want to access Google maps on my bike. Because I need to know where am I going and if there are roads. There is no mapping on my Garmin 810 for India available. In fact there is no mapping on Garmin for any device, so Garmin told me the other day.

Hi Guys brilliant episode as usual. I travelled round Chennai and Tamil Nadu back in 2015. I can highly recommend Auraville and Mount Atunchsla In Tiruvanamali there are amazing Ashrams, temples and animal sanctuary’s there and the Tamil people are amazingly friendly. Enjoy and much love. Grandad’ll be proud of how you spent his inheritance!! I have travelled for most of my life, spent a year in Egypt and Lebanon (during the war there I might add) when I was only 21, drove all over Europe including a road trip to Turkey, lived in Zug in Switzerland for six months, went to Australia via Philippine Airlines which took over 40 hours and had 7 stops on the way, and here I am 67 years old now and living in the US. It’s been an amazing ride! But I always dreamed of going to India. I love the culture, I DEARLY love the food, hehehe, I love the music and history of the region. And now, I get to see it through the travels of my favorite KZbinrs. I’m so excited, I’ll find myself a spot in the tuk tuk and you won’t notice I’m there 😂😂 Ok that sounds a bit creepy, so I’ll just wish you both an amazing journey and I will be waiting for your videos every week! Great work on the paint from them. I think Tuk Tuk may be a name in SouthEast Asia and it is always known as Auto or AutoRickshaw here. But people can quickly associate the name with Auto, but better to refer it as Auto in rural :) Enjoy the ride and have fun.

What a great enthusiastic couple you two are! Great videos and really living life to the full, as it should be lived. We hired a Enfield motorcycle in Rajahstan , India . . got the International driving licence from the Post Office before we left , but the insurance seemed a bit sketchy , the guys in the bike hire place said they had it covered . Also said don't go out of Rajahstan State , the bike did not have permit for that . . . . . . . . and then "the roads" , nothing can prepare you for Indian roads , everything will come from everywhere all the time , including cows . What is biggest has right of way and never , ever , drive in countryside after dark . . . . .😃 . . . .one thing though , if that tuk tuk break down always some guy around who can fix it . Good luck , if you can handle this you will have amazing time .

@@TB---- Ah , ok yes . . .the video is released about 10 days after filming , i didn't know that , thought it would be released more or less straight after filming . But i guess the reply to my comment from Happy Days was real time , meaning if i posted 10pm UK it was 4am India when they replied , hence me asking about having an early start . Thanks for info on time lapse , i'll bear that in mind as we follow the journey .

My and girlfriend use to go India on holidays for about 5 years running, being a passenger in tuc tuc was bad enough i wouldn't be brave enough to drive on them roads. What a fantastic adventure. I feel envious but very inspired too! I visited Jaipur in 2002 and can agree with your comments about the ‘variety’ of smells! And we’ll Done on sorting Morgan too - must be a relief - but it may be a little boring once you’re back! The cow is holy , so they have rights to wander the streets. Most villages keep dogs as guard dogs , who bark on a night when outsiders come by. The dogs also keep the snakes down.
