@@BigChungus37_ Well the "DeathBat" that you see on avenged sevenfold's album artwork is very (some might say lawsuit level) similar to the skull with bat wings that Overkill have been using for their album artwork since they released their 3rd album Under the Influence in 1988, Avenged Sevenfold started using the deathbat in 2003 for reference. Now in fairness not every Overkill album cover uses the Skull with Bat wings, but you can't not draw comparisons

Thirty plus years later and thrash metal is still my favorite. I was stationed in Germany from 1988 - 1990 and had three great years of metal over there. Many of those old tunes I picked up back then are still on my playlists and get played often while I'm out driving for work. Some of those old bands are still putting out awesome thrash. Kreator, Testament, and Exodus are fine examples.

@@Atterus They definitely do, as somebody who also listens to Tech Death, I'd just say they're more progressive more often than technical, with the weird time signatures and tremolo patterns, the absolutely have really technical parts, but they'll usually come to a fairly simple part at some point in the song, and are less so technical than many other tech bands. But all of that said, I do agree they could be described as tech.

Coroner, Vektor, Aura Noir, Destroyer 666, Hexen, Skeletonwitch, Witchery, Warbringer and early Black Fast are all pretty solid. Most of those aside from Coroner are newer bands. But considering the sheer volume of thrash bands that are putting out stuff, its certainly a scene where you have to pick through the refuse to find the gems.

Wow you didn't talk about any of the tech/prog thrash stuff. Bands like Vektor and Coroner are ten times better than anything else in the whole genre and that is an objectively correct fact.

Came here to mention Vektor and Coroner. Voivod, Mekong Delta Forbidden and Obliveon are also great examples of tech/prog thrash. Oh well... maybe we'll get them in the bastardized history of prog.
