Sat with John B at a table in Sicario , I was background cowboy. Had a great conversation . He likes Waylon . I witnessed his amazing kindness when he spoke with one of our background bar patron . He was a young special needs young man . John was kind and took time to visit with him and share stories . This man is a class act . Except like others it is not an act he is the real deal . @sevenprovinces2 жыл бұрын
Hated yes, but also a bit of a tragic hero/villain. He saved Rick, loved his wife, wanted the group to survive at all costs...just his method got all warped. And if you compare him with later villains of TWD (who got ridiculous), he was really a can of peaches, and basically right. In retrospect he and Dale and their own conflicting personalities really carried the series in the first two seasons and made everyone around them act better. But yes, fantastic character, and a great actor whatever he's in. Also seems like a genuinely fun, energetic person.

If I got this rights, Jon, at least, was in Moscow during the time Yeltsin took over shortly after Gorbachev left. That was when Russia had its first and only experience with freedom of expression (I was astonished to see shows being aired on Russian tv that mocked their politicians). Since those days KGB man Putin has regressed that country - ironically thru unregulated cutthroat capitalism which created billionaire oligarchs over night and established a reign under the Russian Mafia - and in all likelihood, Russia will revert back to being an absolute autocracy (Communist without calling itself as such). The dynamics going on over there best be noted by Americans, because it's the billionaire oligarchs and the corporations who prefer a fascist system controlled by a faction rather than the nation's majority.

Couldn't agree more with what he has to say about Moscow (Russia). I lived there and in St. Petersburg for a bit in 2000, not even a year after Putin came to power, and it was a crazy year in Russia (then again I suspect every year is). The nuclear submarine Kursk sank (pretty much the flagship of their nuclear submarine fleet), there was the deadly hostage situation in the Moscow theater (still felt by a good chunk of Russians and Chechens to have been staged), the fire of the Moscow tv tower and...am I forgetting anything? Oh yeah, Putin was not in power for even a year. :p I befriended two market salesmen of communist memorabilia, one of whom, Ruslan (bless his heart), had been in jail for years in the early 80s for having written and performed a - the British would say, very cheeky protest song, against the then communist regime. He also took me in in my final day in St. Petersburg when my bank had made a mistake and I was suddenly without money, had already checked out of my hotel but as a result couldn't catch my train to Mosow. His family had hardly two cents to rub together yet they didn't give it a second thought to take in a reasonably affluent westerner, cook dinner and make sure I had my money again before letting me continue my journey. (And no, they politely refused compensation after. So I just bought some more of his stuff as souvenirs.) But yes, Moscow is very much a brutal city. There are large parts of the city, at least at the time, where a tourist like me was warded by militia (who were effectively the police) as not being declared safe for tourists. Corruption was rampant, everything was for sale and poverty and the poor were dealt with in a way that would sound harsh even to the most ardent of libertarian Americans, let alone this socialist (western European socialism) leaning Dutchman. Also, if you think all Russians are Putin crazed fanatics, brainwashed by home brewed propaganda, look for a youtube video with the search criteria "Putin + Portrait + Elevator". It is genuinely funny stuff showing the (comedic) heart of a lot of Russians.

I wish everyone similar experiences when suddenly stuck abroad, in a relatively dangerous, or as today's guest so aptly put it; beautiful but brutal city.
