I have been doing this for years. I actually put these in my greens bouquets at the holidays. I gather greens and hydrangeas and spent allium blooms and make urns at all my doors at the holidays. They stay in the pots until spring and look beautiful the whole time. At Christmas I add red holly berries and then pull them back out after Christmas. I am in Illinois zone 6b.

23:53 The hydrangeas are gorgeous in the urns. Oh! When Jerry took out the crape myrtle I was cheering him on! I have three of the Natchez in flower beds around my South MS home. One of which is beside the pool. Oh my word!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this information to get rid of the suckers. Everywhere I plant, runners shoot up new ones. They are such a nuisance. I think I'm gonna re-watch the video of Jerry digging that one out to enjoy it one more time. 😂😂

My strongest stemmed hydrangea used to be Pinky Winky but now I have to say it’s Little Lime Punch. Its stems are like metal. And bonus - I love the way its leaves are arranged on the stems. Punch has the same growth pattern as Little Lime, and the size is about the same, but otherwise they are very different.

LOVE THE URNS! I would love that through the winter months. It’s gorgeous! I have 3 Limelight’s I planted last year but the deer got my blooms. This year I had NO blooms, I guess they ate the buds when they ate most of the leaves earlier this year. They five of the six blooms on my new bobo hydrangea that I planted this year. Bought some liquid fence.🤞

I totally removed my 2 Little Limes zone 8A eastern NC. The blooms are beautiful for 2 weeks but let some rain come - they lay right on the ground, even though the stems are thick and strong. They are the wimpiest plants I've ever had. This was before Debby came, so I got them out of the ground and replaced them with Encore Azaleas.

Jenny, you just solved a problem for me! I keep having these "weeds" popping up in my porch garden bed and I have struggled to get rid of them and boy do they grow fast. I didn't know what they were....now I do! We took out a crepe myrtle 2 years ago in that spot...so alas I have runners growing up in the middle of my new bushes! Thank you!

“Those dadgum crapemyrtles” is exactly how I feel! I have 4 on the edge of my yard. They’ve been there for 20 years. Suckers at the bottom after pruning - normal. No problem. But last year I decided to make a flower bed there and started with 5 Annabelle hydrangeas. The suckers/runners started immediately. This year I added other plants and the crapemyrtles are driving me crazy. You can’t pull them up because they are attached to the main roots. You can’t mow them because they’re in the middle of a flower bed, coming right up thru the middle of other plants. I’ve been hesitant about putting anything on them because I’ve read conflicting info - some products kill not just the suckers but also the parent plant, other product kills only the suckers. Thank you for doing this - now I know what to use.

Those urns turned out so stunning! In regards to the Limelight Prime hydrangeas flopping -- We planted one Limelight Prime, 3 Little Limes and 2 Little Lime Punches this past Mother's Day. They are all pretty much receiving the same amount of sun/water. The Limelight Prime looked so bad at first but is looking much better now. The Little Limes have been struggling this entire summer. They have beautiful blooms, however, the stems are so weak that I have to stake them to keep them from flopping. Their leaves at the base turned yellow and they are shedding them, however, the new growth that is coming out is a dark green and looks healthy. The Little Lime Punches are definitely the champs of all three varieties. They are looking great, living their best life! I just wonder if the Little Limes and Prime are struggling more due to the crazy spring/summer we have had with a rainy spring, then the excessive heat wave since they are established. I'm not giving up on them. I'm hoping that once I prune them next year they will improve. We planted one Little Lime last year in the back yard and it's doing great (it's thriving). I never did have the issues I'm having with the ones we planted this year. We had a crepe myrtle that we removed last year and we are still pulling out runners in the bed it was in. I swear we haven't had as many Japanese Beetles since we took it out. They love it!

Ocassionally, we see baby Crape Myrtles. We assummed they sprouted from the seeds the tree drops. We dug up one that had small roots and transplanted it to another part of the yard. Others we dug up did not have roots. We thought the voles had eaten the roots. The joke is on us.
