I absolutely loved trying out hammock camping (although I have a lot lot learn about how to erect it properly haha) and was blessed with the most beautiful night sky and sunrise ❤ It was so nice not using a tarp, so that I had full view of my surroundings, and really enjoyed using the Trangia stove - so light and quiet, I’ll deffo be using it again :D
It's 4 years last week since my first wild camp - I can't believe I'm only just trying hammocking!
New gear this episode:
Boots - Lowa Renegade GTX - Thank you Lowa for sending me these
Trekking Poles - Fizan Compact - Thank you ‪@AshOutdoorsUK‬ (check out his channel!)
Trangia Alcohol Stove
First time using ‪@ddhammocks2418‬ Travel Hammock Bivi as a hammock
As always, respect our beautiful places and Leave No Trace
Thank you so much for watching 😊 Claire 🌿🐻

Heyy Guys! Thanks so much for watching this lil hammock viddy, I LOVE hammocking! ❤ I can’t believe it’s taken me 4 years of wild camping to try it. Just thought I’d let you know the camera settings for the night sky time-lapse in case you fancy trying it - this was in a fairly light-polluted area (bortle 5), so if you can get to darker skies, you’ll get much more impressive results. Anyhoo, they were exposure 13 sec / ISO 3200 / f2.8. This was 914 images shot consecutively on a Canon 5D MkIII with 16-35L lens, but you can use any camera that allows you to use manual settings. I was also using a tripod, remote shutter release and a lens warmer to prevent dew on the lens - gear list in description. Have a great day! Claire 🌿🐻

I have recently got into hammocks too , some tips i have been given are to get some whoopie slings from DD to make adjustments easier , make a gun shape with with your hand and the angle between the top of your thump and pointing finger makes the ideal 30 degrease angle your slings should be set too, make your head side 6 inch higher, when in hammock move your self so you are sleeping at a diagonal as this will make your back straighter so your not banana shaped, there is a really funny guy called Shug who is a hammock genius, i will post a link to his channel here ... kzbin.info
@ACIDvICTIM
@ACIDvICTIM 3 жыл бұрын
@@adventureswithsteve2981 An additional idea is to double up some Paracord and run that through each end of the hammock and then knot it to form a loop or ring which you can use an additional Carabiner on between joining the Whoopie sling, so that any rain water travelling down the sling will drip off the Carabiner rather than making it's way to the hammock. I will try that 6 inches higher at the head end thing... Usually just lay further up the head end and that seemed to be sufficient. Just wondering whether raising one end puts extra/unbalanced strain on one end of the hammock -Probably fine if you aren't a heavy weight. Cheers for the tips/link!

Awesome! Glad you're enjoying the DD hammock! One tip I hear about is have your head slightly higher than feet to prevent headaches. Also I recommend getting an XL hammock sleeve. The XL enables you to keep the hammock and underquilt together and it all slides on n off like a stocking. Can even keep sleeping bag inside hammock too, all fits in. Then I Chuck that all in a large dry bag or stuff straight into backpack.
@StevanOutdoor

When you install the hammock you tie the feet end higher to the tree than the head end.
@mickybetts7957
@mickybetts7957 3 жыл бұрын
@@StevanOutdoor interesting, I see the opposite said on several videos. But I'm no expert, I'm a noob. I'll try the feet higher way next time I'm out.
@StevanOutdoor
@StevanOutdoor 3 жыл бұрын
@@mickybetts7957 For sure watch more video's because that's how you learn. The torso including head is heavier than the legs. If you put your legs up you basically stay in position. If you put the head end higher you will slide down and get crammed in the foot section. Also look at the diagonal position that will make a more flat sleeping surface.
@dangerpudge1922
@dangerpudge1922 2 жыл бұрын
What a great video! Maybe some tricks I've learned about a hammock might help. 1. Get it a little tighter than you had, and make sure to keep the head up a touch. 2. Cheat comfort. You can do the 'diagonal sleep' but that's difficult to maintain through the night. A light inflatable pillow under your thighs will make a crazy comfortable position (like being in grandpa's recliner). Add an inflatable sleeping pad with the thigh pillow under the pad. It is crazy comfortable and makes side sleeping possible and comfortable. Maybe, if you like hammock camping, check out Hyke and Byke Antero or Crestone hammock bags. They can be used as a sleeping bag or as a 'cocoon' which also acts as an underquilt AND bag at the same time... and can also be used as a comfy standard tent bag. Great stuff.

The night sky was beautiful! Your videos are always so well put toghether. I did my first solo wild camp on Thursday - at the age of 56... I loved it, wasn't scared at all, which is very unlike me. Only bad thing that happened was that an ant bit my foot, which I'm now in the process of scratching to pieces - my god, it itches like a bitch!

Hi Claire. Re the bugs, have you tried Avon Skin So Soft. It's an oil spray moisturiser but there is something in it that the bugs hate. I'm a magnet for them but it works really well for me. Not expensive. Worth a try. Royal Marines use it so can't be bad. Me and my boy used it on our last camp which was next to a river....thousands of bugs and not one bite between us!

Don't be afraid to sew your own custom hammock. Dutchware has a lot of handy hardware/fabrics, and so does Ripstop by the Roll. It takes a little trigonometry to do the math building one with a integrated bug net (you cut a hexagon shape), but it's nothing too difficult at all. First one was a prototype, second a massive 12ft long and 6ft wide one for my gf and I, and recently made my third, which is a two-layer hammock, but custom red and black print for the outer layer (red n black is my jam lol). Instead of another heavier fabric on the inner layer, I used a black calendared 0.75oz ripstop, so basically it's like sleeping on silk sheets and more wind resistant. There's so much you can customize with hammocks :]

I really like your channel. Can I respectfully make a few suggestions? It looks like you could use a longer and wider hammock...I find that a ten foot long and about five foot wide is perfect for most people and then a hammock ridge line for more sag makes for a good flat lay when you lay diagonally. Happy camping.

DD Frontline XL should do the biz. Chuffed to bits with mine. 3 mts x 1.8 mts so there's acres of space to stretch out and side sleeping is no problem. The spreader poles that come with it do a fantastic job of keeping the bug net way above you. The zip up bug net worth its weight in gold especially out here in tropical Malaysia and no doubt equally good agaist midges in the UK.

Nice new gear Claire. I love Lowa, I still have a few new pairs of issue GTX mountain boots. Nice to see a trangia. As I said on Instagram, bio fuels can bubble and boil with condensation on rare occasions. A good old tip for lighting trangia's dip your finger in the fuel and then rub the wet finger around the top lip

You definitely seem to make the most of your time and the areas near you! Appreciate you sharing with us and keeping us motivated while we're longing to be out as well! When it's hot like that, I cheat, I bring just a sheet from home to sleep with, lol!

Hammock’s are the best so cozy and comfortable. CB you are really good at photography, you capture some of the most beautiful images, including yourself. CB you always inspire me to want to get out and do more, you are so infectious and I love some of the things you say.. such as bits and bobs and fluffy. 😊 I bet you are very fluffy! Hopefully that’s not offensive.🫢
