Different beer styles have different types of foam. German lagers are likely to have thick, creamy heads, made up of very tiny bubbles, whereas IPAs tend to have a more rocky head. And some beers don't have much foam at all, or it dissipates quickly. It's all part of whatever style they are.

Honestly this makes a lot of sense, I don’t think he explained it as well as he could. Bartenders would pour it to reduce foam so they can quickly fill the glass and give the customers their order as fast as possible. If you’re drinking beer at home, I’ll pour it heavy to get a lot of foam, wait a minute then pour at a 45 degree angle or so. Foam settles into beer and releases gasses.

The problem with ordering a draught beer at most breweries or pubs, is that they serve in a standard "pint" glass. And while technically it is 16 oz., that volume is fulfilled only if the glass has liquid to the very top. Draught beer should be served with a head by having it poured into an imperial pint glass. The additional 3 oz. that the glass can hold will accommodate an ample head while assuring the customer gets an honest 16 oz. of brew.

@@2020-p2z Chronic excessive alcohol consumption reduces testosterone levels. Some studies claim that increased alcohol intake is independent of testosterone reduction (Koh et al., 2022). Heavy alcohol consumption can lower your testosterone levels. This can have an impact on fertility (Healthline, 2020). Decreases in testosterone are associated with decreases in muscle mass and recovery, which can impair performance. This is a potential consequence of alcohol consumption (InsideTracker, 2022). Beer contains phytoestrogens: Studies have identified several phytoestrogens in the congeners of bourbon, beer, and wine (Gavaler et al., 1998). Estrogenic constituents in beer: Research suggests that the estrogenic constituents of beer might contribute to an enhancement of estradiol levels in the body (Catharina et al., 1988). Enhancement of estradiol: A study in 'The Journal of Biochemistry' indicates that consumption of beer can enhance estradiol (a type of estrogen) presence in the body (AdvantageJA, 2023). Hops contains estrogen-like compounds: Hops, one of the key ingredients in beer, contains an estrogen-like compound that can contribute to the estrogenic effects of beer (Business Insider, 2015). Flavonoids in hops: Hops phytoestrogens, especially 8-prenylnaringenin, have strong estrogen-like effects, making them a source of estrogenic compounds in beer (Milligan et al., 1999). Ordered a beer at a fancy restaurant once and the server started pouring the way you first showed (to minimize the foam/head). Jerry Fort the Beer Review Guy Except that it doesn't, it's a classic demonstration of a false example. Nacho in your stomach?? The act of putting the beer in your mouth releases the carbonation. This is pseudo-chemistry from someone who wants to display their apparent expertise & presentation. The head on a traditional beer comes from the initial pump out of the barrel. That head is then displaced from the glass by 'un-frothed' beer. Pouring like this is an attempt to replicate a barrel beer by appearance whereas it simply flattens the beer and ruins it's texture.

He jams the tampon into the first beer 7 times. Possibly in a more aggressive manner than the second beer. Also, the second beer only gets 3 stabs. Plus there is less beer in the second glass to begin with, which likely leads to less foaming.

Don't call it a "beer sommelier." Call it what it is, a Cicerone. The idea is still correct though. A properly poured beer will have at least a "two finger head." You want some CO2 to be released to add to the aroma, and it will prevent a bloated feeling.

They only call beer sommeliers ‘cicerones’ in the US. Besides, ‘Master Cicerone’ does pop up for this guy’s description in the corner, at the start of the clip. Because he’s an American, likely in America. KZbin is a universal platform so the description as ‘beer sommelier’ would obviously be more widely understood, and therefore more suited to the task. This isn’t what a cicerone (tourist or museum guide) actually is. Bit like how barista (bartender in Italian) is used as an American term for a person that prepares and serves coffee. Difference being ‘barista’ is taken from Italian while cicerone appears in English before Italian, likely because of Cicero being a learned and cultured individual.
