I was around four years old when they started playing Lido Shuffle on the radio. It was one of my favorite songs then and I still love it today - 45 years later.

Scaggs was a big part of the soundtrack to my high school years and beyond. I still think “Lowdown” is one of the smoothest, funkiest songs, ever.

I first heard of Boz Scaggs in the 70s when I was in high school, a time when more visible artists like Bowie, Queen, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac etc. dominated radio playlists, TV and fan magazines, so I never heard him much, but liked his tunes and remember them fondly. Boz was a more low key, quiet presence, a class act that everybody just liked and respected He's really one of the most versatile singers ever, with a perfect voice and style that transcends genres. I'm getting back into him now and it's amazing.

Saw him in 1978 Blossum Music Center in Akron, he rode through the crowd in a white stretch limo while we walked the path to the outdoor venue. So cool. Two down, then Left was my favorite Scaggs album not counting Silk Degrees.

Thank you for this! I have always loved a few of his songs but I never knew anything about him, having been a kid when he was most popular, but I noticed him. It is sad that only now am I checking him out! I had no idea I loved so many of his songs and I absolutely love :" Loan Me A Dime "! Had no idea he was playing on this! Wow! Looking forward to turning on to some "new" old sons of his! He is excellent! Great life/works synopsis!

Great musician and one of my top five faves. I've listened to him since 1978 when my Navy roommate wore out his records in the barracks in Spain.

I remember I bought the vinyl album "Down Two, Then Left" for $2 from an offer on the back of a cereal box in 1981 (if I remember it all correctly). I liked the album rather well. It was released between two of his smash albums (as the narrator said).

Thought I might learn how to play his version of Freedom for the Stallion here. I certainly can't play Allen Toussaint's piano version on my guitar.

Of course Silk Degrees is phenomenal, but my absolute favorite album of his is Come on Home which I don't believe you even mentioned.

By 1997 Scaggs was not as visible as he was 20 years earlier. That's not a knock on him. Come on Home is a great album, but remember, this video is a "beginner's guide", so the focus is necessarily on the most most obvious highlights. Think of it as a walkthrough for the tourists. If they like what they hear, they'll come back for more on their own.

My lord, the first time I heard Boz Scaggs was the song Dinah Flo, around 1970-71. Little did we know that 5 years later Silk Degrees would catapult him to fame. Classic album of my youth.

Not gonna lie, Lido Shuffle and Lowdown made the career he had. The one thing that holds good artists back is their determination to stay with a particular sound and style because THEY like it and don't branch out and create the music OTHERS want to hear. These 2 songs were what the audience wanted to hear and he had success because of it, but didn't build on that after the fact. If Boz Scaggs would have had better producers they could have led him in that direction and changed his mind. Boz Scaggs was an awesome artist and musician but his legacy was written by him, and there is nothing wrong with that, but he could have been far bigger than he was and that's all she wrote.
