As a fellow canadian, you can follow the SKS "degassing" tutorials to improve extraction patterns. It makes it so a shell deflector is less of a requirement.

Really great and helpful video. One question, how have the optics held up overtime? They sure look like they are built like tanks, I'm just hoping they are as reliable as they look, I don't want to spend $300-500 only for the scope to fail, no warranty like you get with western stuff. I'm particular curious about the reliability of the red dots like the PK-A and PK01-VS.
@AlienCatcher234 жыл бұрын
I am really curious to see what TI brings for the Type 81 rifles... my math is not the best but as much as I love the concept of side mounts, I am a firm believer that a centred rail rather than an offset one is a better option to maintain relatively consistent POA/POI... keyword “relatively”.... with the bent trunnions on the T81 rifles it might still lead to a few inches of discrepancy at say 200 meters if youre zeroed at 100... on my old VZ58 I loved the low profile CSA side mount. Really hoping they make something similar for the T81.
@3DVIDEOSMurray4 жыл бұрын
The Russian side mount system is pretty diverse. The right side rail on a Type 81 could allow the use of centralized mounts like the RS Regulate, the CZ low profile mount or optics like the Rakurs, PK series and PKA Venezuelan.

I'm trying to put a PSO-1 scope onto an SKS. Or... planning to rather. I'm going to have a tapco stock, so how about would I go mounting a PSO-1 to an SKS? I know I need a separate dovetail mount to put on the SKS and then the scope, but I'm not sure what would be the right mount or how to even mount the mount on the rifle.

Ive never be able to find a genuine SVD cheek pad either. Different vendors based in Russia do sell reasonable quality look alikes tho. That is what is seen in the video. They can be found on Ebay. Or my latest one was bought from 31rounds.com. To get them to fit ur stock properly, u may need to alter the metal latch.

I have a 4x fixed POSP scope coming in for my Type 81 later this week. I tried to read the Kalinka scope manual in advance, but I'm completelly confused. Maybe partly due to the fact that I'm very new to optics, maybe partly due to the translation errors, or I must be missing a key piece of information somewhere. There are actually 2 turrets, in each turret, that seem to need independent adjustment?? I fail to comprehend this. Isn't the whole point of having a recticle the fact, that you can compensate the range and bullet drop just by holding it at different holdover marks? Why then is there a range dial and elevation dial, that are separate from the traditional "click click" initial sight in adjustment turrets as we would see in western optics (I think)...lol Also, being that the scope will be likely sitting off the bore axis (most likely to the left), won't that create an issue, where the line of sight and the bullet path cross at some point eventually and the bullet will then drift to the right the further it goes? Or is that somehow related to the dual turrets? If you could help me shed some light onto this, I would vety much apprecciate it. Thank you for any replies in advance :)
@3DVIDEOSMurray3 жыл бұрын
There are only 2 turrets. One elevation, one windage. The elevation one depending on optic model will have a BDC in increments of 50m out to like 1000m. It clicks between the settings. The windage turret is in .5 mrad per click (cus Russia is metric). With the removal of 2 screws per turret, the turret becomes 2 separately rotating pieces. This only serves the purpose of aiding in zeroing the optic. Once zeroed, these screws need to be tightened. By having the 2 separately rotating pieces, it allows the user to more finely zero the reticle beyond the .5mrad clicks. And when ur done, it allows u to set the BDC to the distance u zeroed at. This concept can be observed on many western optics as well. The Chevrons on the reticle differ between models. For the traditional SVD PSO reticle, they are only to be used once the BDC turret has been maxed out to 1000m. So basically they are for 1100m, 1200m hold over lol. Which is pretty useless. For other models they do represent 200m,300m etc. As for the offset. Depending on the optic model. The reticle may sit to the left of the bore. This does create the X pattern conundrum that ur referring to technically. But the extent to which this perpetuates down range is often exaggerated. Say the optic sit .5 inch to left of bore. U zero perfectly at 100m.... that means that the bullet hits .5 inches right of POA at 200m.... at 500m it hits 2.5 inches right of POA. 2.5 inches at 500m is pretty negligible considering the gun the optic is probably clamped to.
@VLK-733 жыл бұрын
@@3DVIDEOSMurray Thank you sir. This does make lot of sense. So the top black pieces of the turrets are just for fine tunning and the silver bottom parts are doing most of the work then? In theory, if one was to get lucky, the zeroing of the scope could be accomplished just by using the main silver parts without even having to loosen up the 2 screws..right? Also is it just me or is the direction of windage & elevation adjustments on the BelOmo Kalinka scope opposite to that of the traditional western scopes?
@3DVIDEOSMurray3 жыл бұрын
@@VLK-73 u are right on all of those points. The Russian optics tend to refer to reticle motion rather then POI. So when the turret says "UP", or similar in a Slavic language. It generally means "move reticle up" haha. Which i agree is the opposite to most American optics. However not all Russian optic models are like this. When i zero my Russian scopes, i tend to twist the turrets while looking thru the optic. That way i dont need to decipher what units and directions the optic has.
@VLK-733 жыл бұрын
@@3DVIDEOSMurray Thank you for all thus info, as it is hard to come by. Have you ever heard of 1 meter calibration to be used in conjunction with the ranging feature on the bottom part of the recticle? According to my manual, that is exactly the case with my scope (unless it is a typo, but I doubt it because it goes on to explain, that if I imput 2 meter target instead, I'm supposed to divide the distance by two) I know you did mention in your video, that the hunting scopes might go as low as 1.5 meter (average dear size), but only one meter seems kind of strange?
@3DVIDEOSMurray3 жыл бұрын
@@VLK-73 if the rangefinder is calibrated for a 1m object, there is a good chance that u bought an optic with a Siminov Reticle. This is a reticle designed for 7.62x39. Not sure why they went with 1m objects.... maybe that represents a wolf or something ? Idk. My 5x POSP has the same reticle, and its rangefinder is also for a 1m object. On the bright side, the Chevrons on a Siminov reticle do represent a 200m and 400m hold over. So thats kindov cool.

@axelord4ever4 жыл бұрын
ebay is usually the way to go for me, though there are various retailers that offer side-plates and mounts, their lineup is either pretty bare OR they only stock on the pricier kind or stuff for very specific guns. Heck, if you want to experiment a bit you can find airsoft-tier side-plates on aliexpress and/or wish for very cheap. Otherwise, you can find retailers or individuals willing to ship internationally and get them from Russian/Eastern Europe.
