I still have not gotten over the potential of the show had. In the end, it was the fandom interpretations that made me really appreciate the show

I'm at the point where I think that was intentional. If the show reached its potential, there would be nothing to correct, and the story might die.

"So someone misremembering a childhood trauma as a dog would be boring, would it?" BYE, losing my entire mind over this one. Revising the show through this series has me feeling a bit little Charlie it's all sunny, because of all the allusions pre-S4 that seem to indicate one shouldn't take series four at face value. Can't wait for the part when you get to that proper, it's still such a source of cognitive dissonance for me, lmao. I guess my brain cannot give up on trying to make sense of things!! Thank you for these videos, it's been such fun coming home to these every day this week.

Oooooh, great catch on Sherlock texting Irene after he overhears the conversation between Irene and John. Irene thinks she may be 'special' to Sherlock because he DOESN'T respond to her texts as he does to everyone else. Sherlock promptly texts her. Misconception corrected!

Thank you so much for doing this. It finally makes sense and I feel so in peace with myself, knowing that (for so many of us) the subtext is and was always there and it doesn't make much sense without it. TJLC came quite naturally to me. I had not read about it anywhere when I already knew that in my opinion, there was a story going on in the background. I finally feel like this actually had a reason and was not me "making everything gay"

Great as always. Can't wait for series 4 analysis, and I absolutely love the aproach you're employing in this retrospective. I'm so glad I get to watch this as it's being realesed. I aprecciate your work so much, this reading just betters the experiencie of watching this show tremendously.

I had so much fun in the fandom theorizing about BBC Sherlock when people were trying to read the show with TJLC as the main driving force. The show in so many places did not have any explanation other than queer. And I'm so glad that people still are seeing that as a valid reading. It might not have been the story we got but I'm glad that people still see it. Thank you so much for sharing this video series with everyone.

These videos continue to be a delight. You're sparking in me a desire to rewatch the show, which I didn't think would ever happen. I can't wait to see what you do in the rest of this series, and I'm having to curb my impatience that it's not all out in one go. :D

I rewatched this episode and the look on John's face after he and Irene realize that Sherlock overheard their conversation is really telling. It looks like his mask has slipped as he realizes Sherlock now knows his true feelings and John's ready to run after Sherlock - to...what? They had a chance, finally!, to talk and then...they don't and the kidnapping of Mrs. Hudson suddenly pushes that moment away. Then John is drinking on New Year's Eve (he's not an evening tippler), which usually means he's upset about something. And then - I thought I was the only one who noticed this - at the end of Belgravia episode, John gives Sherlock the phone and then starts to leave, but then stops in the doorway, really looking like he wants to turn and say something but then doesn't. Sherlock is watching him.

I can´t believe, I never made connection between The Hound and Sherlock´s own childhood trauma! Also, more I think about it, more it occurs to me, that your version of Reichenbach fall with code actually existing and Moriarty lying about it makes much more sense. Well this one was fun! great as always :D Thanks to your videos, I´m really enjoying this week. So that even with a depressive work I have to do (editing reports about a war), I have something amazing to look foward to. Your videos are like warm rays of sunlight in an ugly rain 💛☺ Can´t wait for tomorrow because I'm going to play your videos on Sherlock s3 and s4 in one go. Make myself a little marathon. And it´s gonna be epic!

Yes, it is the ultimate question. What was it about, if not love...in whatever form. I know widows, married for 30 years who remarried within 2 years. What does that say? Thanks again for an entertaining and thoughtful look at whole thing.

On another rewatch of this series and I just realised when Mark said 'eye-watering' wrt Johnlock fanfiction I think he might have meant it in the British sense which means 'shocking in a vulgar or garish way' so he's almost definitely talking about smut lmao

Thank you for a great commentary on series 2! These new videos are so enjoyable. It’s amazing how that qoute from Wilder (about how he wanted to make Holmes gay in his adaption but couldn’t) would make just as much sense had it come from Gatiss or Moffatt today.

I never thought Mycroft's "Might we expect a happy announcement..." comment was a serious opinion on the possible relationship between Sherlock and John, but simply a mocking of their sudden interactions.

Back when I watched Sherlock, I had not yet developed a psychotic disorder. It's so strange to have a show you're so emotionally attached to become a pit of unreality triggers. I'll return tomorrow when my brain is less of a mine field. Thank you for your work 💗

So sorry the video was triggering to you! The unreality stuff is going to come up in the rest of the videos (obviously for TAB, and then that technique does get used in TLD and BBC Dracula as well).

the framing of the dialogue between Irene and John at Battersea always struck me as odd, tbh. John was always on the left, and Irene on the right. The right side of the human brain stands for emotion and creativity, and the left for logic and reason. Odd, then, that John would be on the left given he's the one acting emotional and Irene's the one who's collected, and seeing clearly. Doesn't that seem like a contradiction?
