A Big Day| First Communion and Confirmation| Autism

Welcome to Autmazing! We talk a lot about autism around here because we are a family with five kids and a mom and dad who are autistic and we believe that autism acceptance is extremely important. We also post videos daily (or almost daily), about topics that we feel are important and sometimes there's a vlog thrown in too. We think it's important to see that being autistic is just that- another way of being human. You'll get glimpses of what's going on at the moment in our lives, usually in a little town in Michigan, or in the nearby city that Paul works in.
We are a family of 7, with a Mom named Cammie and a Dad named Paul. Sadie is 15, Maggie is 13, Patrick is 10, James is 8, and Tessie is now 7!

Yes! Our regular parish had something going on just about every weekday (or at least the ones that worked for everybody's schedules) and so Paul spoke with the priest in the parish next to the courthouse he usually works in and they set up a day. He goes there when he can during the week, but it was my first time being there. We did end up getting quite the tour because Maggie sprinted up the stairs to look in the choir loft!

Help, I'm on the spectrum and I want to be a mom and I want to know if its realistic to be a parent. I struggle a lot with my autism. but I want to be a mommy. Is it hard? Is it harder to be autistic or to parent kids on the spectrum. Thanks!

This is a great question, and @BlueGreen08 has a great answer. I think it probably depends a lot on the person. I'm sensory seeking, like the girls, in some ways, which I feel like is easier than if I was sensory avoidant in the same areas. I do struggle with noise and sounds though, so probably the biggest help for me has been investing in a variety of different levels of ear protection so that when vocal stims are happening I can have some relief.
