It doesn't make sense to me. Two black guys bought it to segregate their people from racism, having their own school, police, and community, and it makes sense to me looking back at the time it was needed. But eventually one of the guys do part of the land to someone else? And now people are mad that the someone else is building something else there? The neighborhood I grew up in is completely different too. I wish we never renovated or gentrification of things, we should keep everything old as it first stand for historical reasons. It's that what they're mad about?

Can a Historically Black College step in to expand their university into Eatonville? That would be educationally congruent with the first philanthropists' mission for the land. Is there a historically black college in Florida with a healthy endowment that can afford the land? What about Howard? They probably have the money. So weird that a school board is now asserting its right to be a real estate developer?? Florida is coming up with new autocratic tricks every day, and using school boards to get this ugly work done. Pay attention, USA, and vote these types OUT up and down the ballot. Plan for 2024 voting now. Stay safe everyone! 💙

@@myurbangarden7695 I don't know Florida A&M well enough. Do they have a healthy endowment? At the end of the day, most real estate development is about money. A responsible entity giving them money could make them go away, then turn back to the town and do right by the residents. The good news is that college students generate economic activity: little restaurants, rental housing for off campus living, etc. Hope it works. 🗽

It IS interesting that a commercial rebuff is so firmly in place, yet no alternative plan is offered up. What's really going on? If local leadership and national awareness followed up with action after their words, this would be a non-issue, as the town would be thriving.

@@jfayiii Perhaps small town mayors, town councils, and school board presidents feel overwhelmed when confronted by real estate developers? More than overdue for the USA to take a closer look at the real estate industry nationwide, an ugly industry that has proved to be irresponsible in the past. We might get a handle on inflation in housing costs and reduce homelessness as beneficial byproducts.

FAMU grad here. We have FAMU Law about 10-15 minutes south of Eatonville in Downtown Orlando in Parramore (another historically Black area undergoing urban renewal and gentrification). Parramore was decimated the moment they ran I-4 through there. Please look up the history of the law school to understand your wishful thinking of expansion. HBCU placement will not change urban renewal plans of billionaires put in place 20-30 years ago. Overtown in Miami, Liberty City & many other areas in Orlando & Miami are fighting this but understand there are European billionaires in the back pockets of city officials making this happen.

I think many old small towns have issues with developers. Look at I-25 from Ft. Collins to Denver. There used to be many farms. Now I think there is only 1 abandoned farm house left. I live on the West Side. Of Laramie, between the tracks & the river. The oldest part of the whole town. 2 years ago the railroad took out the tracks that went to Centennial & gave the land back to the city. Which they sold & now there are 6 duplex apt buildings surrounded by houses built in the early 1900's. I live many blocks south of there in a 1870 log cabin. Thankfully there is no open land in my hood!

The original philanthropist & original trust made it specifically clear at the original sale of the property at the very beginning that the only reason or purpose of any sale of the property is to be used for the education for African Americans. The property should go back to its original course & be developed for the use & purpose as either an African American private school for women or an elementary charter school-private school for African American children or an African American church school, Let’s face it, why take everything from African Americans society, look at the stats-young black men are lucky to alive after age 25, look at the drugs, crime, education levels, broken homes, education was key to the original sale, is that so difficult to understand?

At 5:54 the commentator clearly states that the plots were sold off in agreement with the school board, AND the trustees. So please explain how a community that never had ownership, or a legal claim to a piece of property, and the subsequent sales were done in agreement with the owner (OCPS), buyer, and trustees of the estate, now suddenly can say, it's our land, give it back?

@@sarahsunshine18 Exactly what do you specifically mean, that a group of people can claim rights to property that was never legally theirs because they wish to establish a community that will be based on the race and ethnicity of the residents. This, along with several other types of "equity initiatives" that are trying to be introduced into our society, will not serve to bring equality and reconciliation, but will in fact, be viewed as retribution, and will further divide our communities .

The man bought the plots. The town became incorporated. Why? So, they could have voting rights! Ain't never going to be a kumbayah with people who can't see how these fake worldly laws are prejudiced from their inception to create caste systems; wherein the lawmakers and their business friends can rip off everyone else legally. This has nothing to do with God's law which is why you fight against true equality and equity in everything you do. The school board performed the same functions as the half-breed natives of the country and many others in making agreements with the enemy. So again...no kumbayah....

A contract like that with racial stipulations would be illegal today, which would render that clause of the contract null and void. Eatonville doesn't own the land, period, and if they want it they should go through the proper eminent domain proceedings and be prepared to pay a fair market value for it. It's also disgusting that residents are "worried about being outnumbered". By whom? Members of different races? Everyone has the right to live wherever they want. You don't GET to have racially pure communities in modern America. The degree of endemic racism Eatonville seems to tolerate is honestly shocking.
