As a doctor I can explain what “pimping” is to give it more reasonable context. We call it pimping because it is done to degrade and embarrass you in front of your peers. It is a show of dominance. It is not merely asking trivia questions or testing knowledge.

This was an infinitely great video for the world in general. As a late Gen Z black man who has dealt with abuse that flew under the radar, it terrifies me how certain environmental factors were the difference between me being very forgiving despite the abuse and neglect, and being an absolute monster lost in unconsciousness out of anger and vengeance towards the lack of love I received from my mom and projection of my father‘s misdeeds on my Neurodivergent issues that she did not support. Fortunately, I was intelligent enough to figure out coping strategies for myself, but a five-year-old isn’t gonna improvise well enough. The normalization of these things started with Family Guy for me, and Even though boondocks was trying to convey a message against pimps, it was not received that way by my peers in elementary and middle school. I actually obtained friends by being able to imitate Herbert and quagmire, etc, and this was well received regardless of gender. We truly didn’t understand the full scope of what we were talking about, our emotions weren’t dysregulated when we talked so it made no sense for boys to see this as a problem. (I saw another comment about a woman saying in school she saw boys talking about pimps lackadaisically, and after explanation, they were horrified and stopped. I wish you were there when I was younger. This was all normalized to us.) The fact that all it took was my mom working a night shift for me to stay up an extra hour to see Family Guy every night shows why this problem is so complicated. Imagine 1 million problems festering in a family that treats authentic emotional expression as rebellion and betrayal, now imagine that kid finding healing through 2000s era television, I’m surprised I’m not dead or in prison. I owe it to my older sisters, Gen Z and millennial black women have changed the game, the generational trauma they’ve healed is profound. They would not allow me to run away from my emotions as much as I thought that was the solution, like baby boomers and Gen X have programmed us to think (people pleasing customer service). my sister’s refused to meet conflict with pure anger, they demanded I examine my thinking and emotions and see my folly or others. In the end, when I told my mom about how her neglect led to my abuse while she was Lost in survival and pride, she didn’t receive it well at all and I think I would be a very vicious person after that conversation if it weren’t for my sister on the phone 1,000,000 miles away making sure that I knew that she was supporting me. Sorry to rant, but this was a healing video. I conclude to say is, like you described, anyone can grow up to be a monster, the difference tends to be a support system with good emotional intelligence. I agree that sexual predators cannot be rehabilitated and will need to be imprisoned for life, and in that same conversation, we need to understand that these people were kids once, and the problems tend to start there. So like the end of your video said, if elementary school kids can dance to explicitly sexual songs under the supervision of adults (2000s pop was a wild time lol) kids can be properly educated on how they may be sexually exploited. It’s sometimes as simple as knowing the names of your parts so people can’t hide their evidence through your ignorance. We wanna hide that there is evil in this world so bad, and that’s exactly why evil prevails

Tarantino goes into detail about the yt pimp in Taxi Driver. Bc it wasn't a thing at the time. In fact, the only reason Keitel was hired was due to the studio was afraid that having a black pimp would upset black ppl and made Scorsese hire a Keitel. Even then, Tarantino admits he can't imagine the role played by anybody else.

for the past five or so years, i've viewed pimps and landlords in the same category: predatory thieves enabled by capitalist culture. glad to watch this, i really learned something here.
@nataliaalfonso2662Ай бұрын
Folks. Can we quit it? Landlords, while they can be slumlords and the worst people on earth, do actually provide people an apartment or house once they pay yes? And they did have to pay for the house first and pay all the taxes and do all the tapirs and maintenance and take on the full liability right? Like one idiot tenant brings a single criminal into a building a landlord owns, and it can be taken by the government in civil forfeiture. Right????? And also…. I’ve never even once heard of landlords smacking and r*ping and punishing and branding random teenagers to force them into their apartments lmfao. Please stop. You sound like the pimps trying to downplay the atrocities they commit by comparing everything in the world to pimping. The only thing comparable is literally slavery. Bc…. It is slavery. It’s selling non consenting human flesh. Landlords can be exploitative and predatory. If they actually provide a home, they are NOT PIMPS. Especially if you can leave after 6 months or a year for literally free. And whenever you want for a fee. And especially since you can call the cops on them for anything. Like what are you saying? I promise you…… no yuppie that has overpaid for some gentrified apartment has experienced being sex trafficked.
@sourgreendolly768517 күн бұрын
@@nataliaalfonso2662 Landlords do not "provide" homes any more than pimps "provide" sex. They rent space to live in for a profit, they're not providers to their tenants. Not being a slumlord only makes it less exploitative but it's still exploitation. The very concept of landlording is why most of us will never afford our own houses. I'm not saying they should be compared to pimps because you're right - it's not slavery to rent places out to people for profit - but someone participating in the system making it near impossible to own your own home is not providing sht. Be so for real.

Thank you so much for this video, so illuminating especially for non-Americans that consume the culture. I'm African (and still live in my country), growing up I thought pimp/pimping was something positive . As an adult I understand what it ment but I thought it was a mutual agreement between the women and their Pimp (equal profit sharing and finders fee etc) which is a common arrangement here. Then I read the Ice berg slim book and Wow...i couldn't believe it. Especially because so many blackmen keep mentioning this book as inspiration. How was this ever glamorized?!! Kids Pimp movies/costumes???!!! .

Thank you so much for educating on this sensitive topic in an approachable and clear way. We as human beings have to cease with upholding systems that support exploitation, abuse, violence and inequality. Dismantling those horrible patterns starts with each and every person. Education is so powerful. It can be difficult to keep hope sometimes because of how abuse of power and exploitation get glamourized. Having conversations and making sure that there are outside for people who have been victimized are vital. This comment section has much substance as well. I look forward to keeping an eye on it as more wisdom and experience get shared here. Thank y'all.
