Wow Alan this was another awesome walk! We do love you and your videos…your ears may have been burning (probably not you may be in bed now) but we have just been talking about how much we loved you even before we met you, meeting you for us was like meeting someone famous we idealised but it makes us enjoy your videos now knowing the amazing person you are in real life! We really hope to book a weekend in the Lakes in the summer so we can venture and hopefully do Jakes Rake with you! Great walk this one and seeing Blencathra was cool 😎 love to The amazing Mrs Metalman who we idealise too 💗🥰❤️😘

Thanks so much for watching and your very kind words which a appreciate. What a great hike this was, I was walking at about 06.50 and the only sounds I could hear was nature and the wildlife, which I love. I had all 3 summits to myself and only had to share the last one after about 45 minutes but that was due to it getting close to 12.00 then, a perfect days hiking for me. Cheers Alan

His walk today and turned in to 14.4 miles, on a stunning day. My feet and lower back were killing me. 1st stop Souther Fell, then this is where I did an "on purpose detour" up to the Waterfall and then Scale Tarn. Clearly missing the bridge. Walked back and down to the bridge. Then along the bottom towards Bannerdale. Then headed over to Bowscale, but went back from there and down the narrow footpath back in to Mungrisedale. A short pit stop by the shallow river and planted my feet in there, they were killing me. Thanks Alan for the route

Another beautiful hike… we enjoy watching your videos on Sunday mornings. You know I did search and rescue for 25 years here in the local mountains in Southern California and it’s nice to see that you carry a whistle with you. It’s a really good idea.!! Cool adventure, Alan. I always wondered why they call the peaks, fells. Interesting the change in terminology from one region to the next. Well done on your summits. Good pointers on being safe about climbing too. Accidents can happen in a moments notice. I fell off a trail last summer. It was not even a hard section of trail either. I guess I'm getting older and less balanced! LOL. Take care and have a great day.
@AlanMETALMAN
@AlanMETALMAN Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is the balance thing for me too, the older I get the more careful I seemed to have to be. Yes, it's funny we tend to call them Fells in this part of the country but I think it is a lot to do with local dialect. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Another great video Alan on some of the quieter fells but still with wonderful views. You got another blistering hot day & I agree, any hike is about the enjoyment of the day and so if you want to take time out to rest or enjoy the views then do it because that's what makes the day. Good advice too re both the power bank and Sharp Edge, it's good to push yourself but to know your limits. A nice route this too. I've always ended up coming down the steep bit before somehow haha but will check this way out for next time. Great parking facilities, nice the money goes to the local community plus handy for the pub too 🤣

Hi Alan, Everything I see is radiant and lively. Summer is her in the UK. I am curious if you are carrying regular water or something else 4:43 Again, I relish your Q&A talk. Especially your honesty about sharp edges is simply appreciated. I didn't expect to hear the word, " nervous" from your as an expert. Let's not misjudge the danger of the climbing whether a hiker is a novice or adept. Such a gorgeous view in your back ground 10:10 and I appreciate it. Thank you so much for giving lessons throughout your hike, Alan See you next time. Ciao Thank you for your patience on my belated comment again.

Yes, in the summer I always take 3 litres of fluid with me on every hike. I always enjoy answering the questions and yes, I was always very nervous going over Sharp Edge a notorious black spot for accidents, many fatalities over the years as well. Great day for walking Alan. Had to smile when you said I'm going straight up the hooter 😂 The walk down looked really nice. I can walk up and down forever but I don't have the best of balance so often find myself coming down on my backside aka parts of Scarth Gap or like you said hands and knees going over some of the more scary edges. The last time I was on Snowdon was 7 years ago, we set off climbing at 07.00 and it was still packed on the summit, even though the weather was pants. Nothing funny about Shape Edge in the mist, so a great call on going back. I was with a small group the first time I went over and a lass has a funny turn (she was not laughing) exactly half way across, she would not go back or forwards - none of us were laughing then. Great walk Alan 👍🏻 We will have to give it a bash, Haven’t been to the lakes for a couple of weeks as my back went off. Great views and lush weather for you. We still hope to bump into you on a walk sometime. We’re doing Snowdon in Dec weather permitting 😬 Thinking of Blencathra for our little ones 30th Wainwright missing out sharp edge.

Good idea, I took my grandson up Blencathra when he was 12 and I never risked him over Sharp Edge, despite he wanting to give it a go. I had a bad back about 18 months ago for weeks, doing my head in, nothing was working and then I bought an £10 plastic back stretcher off Amazon and it done the trick straight away. Fingers crossed you get it sorted out. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

@@AlanMETALMAN thanks Alan will give it a bash. It’s better now to be fair. Hoping to do some wild swimming in Eskdale on Saturday then continue with the Wainwrights the week after 👍🏻 Could do with another lodge break over there to knock some off.

I had a great day Al and I think I was walking at about 06.50, not a soul about and the only sound was nature and the wildlife, perfect! I set off around Bannerdale Crags but when I check the map I had it set for straight up, so I followed it - yikkes it was steep lol. Real pleased we binned tonight, we have had thunder/lightning and heavy rain from 17.00 onwards here tonight. Is it any other country you should want to hike in?

Super video Alan, not sure about all those long breaks!! You are really knocking off the wainwrights so well and showing how much you enjoy it, even the steep bits. We were at the bridge in the gulley on the day we did Blencathra Andrea eve suggested doing Souther Fell too but I think she was having a weak turn!! All systems go for this weekend, will send you an email tomorrow. Regards, Ashley

Nice video Alan. Another 3 in the bag! Souter Fell was horrible when I did it ( very wet&windy)😢. Of the other 2 Bannerdale Crags was my favourite. It was covered in snow and I got some fantastic photos. I still haven’t done Nevis yet which is a bit embarrassing for a Scottish Hill Walker!! It’s on the list😂 Well done and take care mate

Funny thing about Ben Nevis I always say on every trip up and down there I hear accents from all over the world going up and down, except one, a Scottish one lol. To be honest, I think I prefer the weather I got on these three to what you had, really enjoyed the day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Nice one and fingers crossed you get some good weather, as it is a great walk. The tongue sure is the best route down, the other route looks fine but every single person I know who has done that other route said it was a nightmare. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Take care, cheers Alan

Hi Alan £2 is great to park for all day and with the proceeds going to the centre. I agree with you about the chocolate for energy 🙌but don't let it melt in hot weather ! That's a gorgeous place and the views from Souther fell I agree are stunning. Shame you had bad weather when you hiked Snowdon , what a shame that you missed the amazing views. Well done on pronouncing Llanberis 😃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 but if you are doing it again it has got MAD busy in recent times, and can be dangerous with the amount of people up there that are not used to mountain walking and just wanting the photos for social media. I would say to get parked up really early 👍 Totally agree with you about hiking alone, Alf and I just like doing it together and not even with our kids and that way we can be free to do whatever. Sharp Edge sounds scary if it made you nervous , you are THE metalman 😃and I was imagining you getting over it 🤭 This was really beautiful with plenty of ups and downs you said, and I loved the views and the sounds of nature including the sheep and birds, and that house at the end was lovely. Another enjoyable hike :) ~ Anna 👍

Haha, yes, the Welsh lessons are paying off! Funny enough it was 7 years ago now and we set off at 07.00 and it was still packed on the summit when we got there. If I get there again I will be parking in the dark and walking at first light, I do not want to miss a great Snowdon summit again. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Yes, especially when I can walk for miles and hours and not see anyone else, so I always do try and me as carful as I can. I would love to hike in the USA, so much variation of landscapes, although not that keen on the bears and rattlesnakes they have over there lol. I will add this question to my list and answer it on another video and give your channel a mention. Thanks very much for watching, real nice of you, cheers Alan
