Canadian railfan here. Where is this Soldier Summit? California? That is quite the sight to see 7 locomotives with barely 100 hoppers struggle to climb that grade! Our coal trains originating out of Hinton, Alberta, can be up to 220 units in length while being transported by only 3 locomotives! Mind you, our trains seem to have a mostly DOWNHILL 475 mile cruise from Hinton to the SW BC coast..

Thank you for your comment! Soldier Summit is located in eastern Utah. It has a ruling grade of 2.5% or 1:40, on both going up and going down, hence why the need for so many locomotives. I really like your description of the coal trains you see. I'd love to see one's that long! Here's a link to a website with more information on it: www.drgw.net/info/SoldierSummit

@jamesedwards9857 I would happily post the video directly onto your page or, even simpler, directly into your comments like I can on Facebook. I have not figured out how to accomplish that task on KZbin yet. Still in beginner stage here lol

@robertgates5053 Unfortunately, youtube doesn't let you post videos or links in the comments. But if you're using your phone, in the regular video app you can use the Little + button on the bottom of the screen to upload videos, or you can also use the yt studio mobile app. Or if you're on a computer, you can use the yt studio website to upload videos directly. Also, if you want to post your Facebook profile and I'll friend or follow it with my account.

And they wonder why they "break" knuckles, when they strain them as much as this?

That's quite a mix of foreign power! This NS and CN locos are pretty far from home.

Yes, they certainly were! That's why I love BNSF trains in Utah bc they seem to have more variety than UP trains. But that's also just bc it's UP territory, so there's not as much of a chance for them to have foreign power.

@@jamesedwards9857 Are BNSF coal trains on this route a regular occurrence? Any idea where they load?
@jamesedwards985717 күн бұрын
@BoostedFridge no they don't run coal trains very often on this line. but they do have multiple manifest trains that run between Denver Colorado and Provo Utah that use the line, and those are almost daily each direction. Also I don't know where they get loaded at i assume somewhere east of Denver, since they took this train West from Denver over the Moffat pass and then Soldier Summit and points further.

@@jamesedwards9857 They could possibly load at Price and head west from there. I have seen them at Garfield headed west on the old WP tracks (now UP) headed toward Elko.
@jamesedwards985716 күн бұрын
@snoopysanta1 Utah Railway used to load at savage between Wellington and Price, but now it's just UP that loads from there. The BNSF loads them somewhere in Colorado or elsewhere.
