Being a russian myself i can assure you that nothing is wrong with the price. It stayed the same. I checked it multiple times already. Please pay attention to that there are 2 different "kits". The K-01 is very simple one and e.g. there are no parts integrated as shown in 3:00 - 4:30 here. Those are in K-02 kit! Further down you can select the parts that you need for yourself so you can specify your buy! I just checked the price for what i would prefer: K-02 basic kit + 1x 2 small holders + 2x diamond stones kit (Venew diamond stones are the BEAST! i tried them multiple times!) + leather on aluminum bar + Dialux abrasive paste kit + 3x screwdriver-keys (for holders). Pay attention that I removed the ground plate (see no reason in it and i have enough materials to make my own stable ground unit) and 1x big holder (those 2 small ones will do most of the job well in my opinion!). That got me to around 315$. can't buy it though because i have no money atm ^^. Feel free to ask if you have problems with translation!

Actually, since ceramic is a lot harder material than steel, the rough part on the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup does sharpen knives well (as in removing steel). You can see this by the black lines of fine steel particles it leaves behind on the coffee cup.

I was a chef for 25 years so I'm pretty good at sharpening knives and yes I have a $25 ceramic sharpener that gives the best results I've ever had. That said most chefs can't sharpen a knife properly. This setup though would be good for tiny knives where you can't get a good sharpening rhythm going
@pauljs758 жыл бұрын
You can also buy ceramic stones or rods specifically for knife sharpening. It's something like a 10,000 grit eqivalent for fine and 20,000+ for extra fine. On average ceramics also wear better than natural, and you occasionally clean them with something like BonAmi and a 3M scouring pad if they load up after a while. Only downside? Don't ever drop it.

$417 USD ($549 AUD) as of 7/7/17 (This date is perfect for those who Day/Month/Year VS Month/Day/Year) Very expensive for a sharpener, however the engineering in such an item should mean it should last many generations and thousands of restored blades with little maintenance. A dull and/or chipped blade, no matter the original cost of it should never be thrown out if it still has the potential to be resharpened, remain useful and used for many more years. This eventually could save you money, reduce waste and also (hopefully) teaches us that the throw out culture we have become is certainly not the way to go. Hopefully this sharpener also works on other cutting tools and not just knives. This is why I don't mind saving longer to spending more on a quality product that will get plenty of use throughout the years and genuinely last.

He is showing us these products hands on and he is making a living for his family by doing this. His videos are detailed and thorough. I enjoy every one of them. 2. Sell out? What is your definition of a "sell out"? I see nothing on his channel that locks him into a certain brand or a specific tool. A sell out is someone that promotes something regardless of the actual quality for money. Cody is willing to recognize when something is better then what he's used in the past. 3. When you get something new isn't it the GREATEST ever until something new comes along or until you find something you didn't know about that is better? Notice how none of them look like the one you got? Go up a little bit above those green check marks. Click the white rectangle that says "Profile K02". Now scroll down and look at the middle kit. Does it look a bit more familiar? The price of the kit that you received when the video went live was around $346. You made a simple mistake when comparing and pricing the different units. You can even compare the prices now to the prices back then. PLEASE make sure to scroll farther down to the parts selector so you can see how much each individual part varied as some of the kits changed and prices reflect that.

Supply and demand... If the quality is really as good as he claims, the Mfg cost can't be cheap, and production is probably done on a small "craft" level, not an industrial mass production scale. Very few products are still machined in mass scale, it would be cheaper to cast or stamp a product once it gets to a certain scale. Machining takes much longer and is much more expensive and can not be scaled up as quickly... Ask the Germans about MG34's vs Mg42's... So if these machines are milled and machined, and he gets a huge boost in demand, he cant just snap his fingers and make 1000 more overnight, so naturally the price will go up.... Before this video, he probably didn't have that much market exposure, probably none over seas...

The handles are made of ebonite ...what bowling balls are made of, and the rivets are nickle silver. If you have any of their serrated edged slicer knives..they have what they call a double D edge. That edge is the same used on a ophthalmologists scalpel. You can shave the hair right off your arm with them if sharp. This wonderful sharpener from Russia may not sharpen serrated edged knifes. ***** i have the lansky set with the diamond stones and ceramic and arkansas and the leather strop "stone". if i had to describe the lansky system in one word, it would be finicky. if you put different pressure on the stone, the rod will bend ever so sligbtly which changes the angle enough to make it look wierd and also affect sharpness. if you use more than one rod, it wont work because each rod seems to be at least slightly bent different. if you dont get the rod tightened into the stone at the exact same depth each time, it will ruin the edge. because the rod guide hole is oval, if the rod moves to the other side of the oval it is changing the angle of contact. unless the blade is straight with no curve, the angle is changing as you move along the blade.. actually a straight blade is also changing angles, you would need a semicicrcle blade. however, if you correct for all of these things and work slowly, you can get very good results, altho i have never been able to get mirror finish without a separate step, i can get it shiny so i can read letters clearly in the reflection, but in most light you can see plenty of scratch marks. for me, setting a profile and working to hair popping sharp takes a few hours, which is super slow but i do it while watching tv and its relaxing. still, i would love a better system, or the skill to hand sharpen like a pro

You know what's sad about this video? That it reminds us that America no longer makes such great tools and is nothing more than a nation of consumption, rather than the nation of producers that we once were.
@doloinc8 жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with the cost of the product. I'm highlighting the fact that America no longer makes quality products like we used to. Take craftsman tools, for instance. What was once a very respectable tool line is now chinese junk.
@Matthew-mq6fz8 жыл бұрын
We still produce plenty of things; it's just that what we make has changed. Our textile manufacturing and lower-end consumer goods (hand tools, for example) have mostly moved overseas, but higher-end technology manufacturing has taken its place. Of course, these newer industries often employ less people than once worked in the textile or steel mills. But to suggest the US has fallen behind Russia in manufacturing (in anything but small arms) because of this nifty---and probably unavailable to most American consumers--knife sharpener, is silly.
@Matthew-mq6fz8 жыл бұрын
For an American to produce a set of quality wrenches and recieve a fair living wage, those wrenches would have to be priced much higher than they are when they're made by some Chinese kid who can survive off pennies a day.
@doloinc8 жыл бұрын
30 years ago, you could obtain quality American made hand tools for not much more than 'quality' tools made in China today. Now, even the 'high quality' and expensive tools manufactured in America fail in comparison to mid range, inexpensive tools manufactured 30 years ago. Again, prime example is Craftsman. Many of the craftsman tools my father obtained in the 70s and 80s are still far superior in quality and build than expensive 'American quality' Craftsman tools he bought just last year.
@Matthew-mq6fz8 жыл бұрын
+doloinc I'm totally aware of that. But again, our economy has changed since those days. And in order to still be able to actually afford hand tools, to keep the price reasonable and affordable, it has to be made by someone in a country who has a lower standard of living than ours. Sad, yes, but that's what we as consumers have demanded since the Industrial Revolution, really. But still, I see nothing made in Russian on the shelves where I shop.

Being a machinist, the first thing I thought as you were pulling the parts out was "that looks like a machinist tool". I can tell you that this is the type of approach I would have taken in developing something similar. And yes, this is a high quality device, great engineering and an absolute work of art. Now, you've likely given him a big problem but it's a good problem to have: that being, keeping parts in stock. My boss recently made some little seat spacer for Toyota Tacomas. He was selling them alright on a machinist forum but he finally had a KZbinr review them and now he can barely keep up with demand.

By your logic anyones' opinion given it is a video about a knife sharpening system or a comment in regard to some political issue could be called useless and irrelevant, therefore why bother watching or commenting. Make that three stones and I'll agree - it's all anyone needs. Coarse to remove damage, Medium to get an angle, then Fine to polish it. You can get fanatical about it and run up to 10,000 grit or more, but for an EDC that fine a finish won't last. If I was knocking out high volumes of blades daily, fine ... to maintain a typical home's 10-20 blades - that sort of outlay is excessive indulgence! Cody quoted prices for the K01 model, not the K02 that he received. The prices for the base units only went up $20 for the K01 and $40 for the K02. They also switched it so the K02 is the default one shown where it used to be the K01 so this also makes it seem like the price greatly increased if you do not pay attention.
@vincemaxwell29118 жыл бұрын
Ancil Baisden I totally agree. I watched this video a couple weeks ago. I went to the web site and searched for the prices, they matched up to what Cody had said in the video. I decided today to pull the trigger and make the purchase, only to find the prices hiked up. That made me turn away from my purchase. I feel that if a product video was placed and well received, give the public a chance to buy the product for what it was said to be at, not hike the price up within a two week period. Lost my sale. Greedy? Not sure why the price increases after the video!

@pmcgee0038 жыл бұрын
bsp means knives for electric machine planer/jointers.
@mikkosha8 жыл бұрын
I doubt that it would do a good job on wider planer blades since it is based on a fulcrum mechanism it won't give you either a straight blade nor a consistent cutting angle. The reason why is that the arm is the shortest in the middle of its range, which causes the angle to be the steepest, while the arm will be the longest at both ends of its range thus grinding the lowest angle at the ends of the blade. As an engineer that's not a good solution every serious manufacturer would reject that idea... For sharpening knifes it is okay though since very few knifes have a straight blade. Nice machining though.
@nikolaihedler88838 жыл бұрын
I see your point, but I think you'll find that the angle will actually be consistent if the planer blade edge is already straight, because everything stays in one plane. The angle of the stone relative to the vertical shaft will change, but relative to the planer blade, it will stay the same.
@mikkosha8 жыл бұрын
As you say it will change relative to the shaft that acts as the fulcrum and the blade stays in the same plane but that is exactly what is changing the angle of the stone relative to the face of the blade. If you look at a right angled triangle and take its hypotenuse and the adjacent side this angle would be the bevel angle of the blade. The sum of the angles within a triangle is 180° and you got a right angle with 90°. Given this you have a difference of 90° so if the bevel angle is 30° and the angle on top of the fulcrum changer along the length of the blade to 62° the resulting angle of the stone to the face of the blade and thus the bevel angle will be 28°. This might not seem like much but i have some experience doing precision grinding and sharpening and to change the angle of a blade by 2 ° over its width is not done quickly and necessitates a lot of checking and measuring to make sure you stay straight and true... if the blade is still straight and you use this jig the fact that there isn't too much support along the way makes me wonder whether it wouldn't flex too much to be ground precisely (when you look at the equipment that gets used to sharpen those you will see that the jigs usually support the blade along its entire length or have many intermediate supports to keep it from flexing) If the blade is a carbide blade it would be very dangerous to do it that way because carbide is very unforgiving when it comes to flexing and cutting it with the wrong or dull abrasive. To me there is no way around it this jig is not suitable for sharpening planer blades consistently or well. You could use it for a bodge job in a hurry with a planer blade you wanted to throw away anyway but not with blades you really want to reuse. It should be fine for knifes though as long as you don't use it on those that got dents or knicks in the blades because then a belt sander or a whetstone grinder would be the way to go :) If you've got questions feel free to ask :)

This system is Very Impressive!!! Over the years I have bought and still own what I thought were some of the best commercial and professional sharpening systems in the world, including Sheppach, Tormek, Lansky and the electric Nirey machines and many others and expensive stones. Being from an engineering and mechanical background, I love sharping the knives for my restaurants and home and private knife collection. Recently I saw this TS Prof System right here on this site, and after seeing it a few weeks ago I started doing some research. During this time I also came across the Wicked Edge system as well. To my shock and dismay I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of the Wicked Edge when compared to this TSProf. How the heck can they possibly justify such a high price for the wicked edge? That's a Wicked price! I laugh when I read people here complaining of the high price of the TSProf. I don't think you understand real quality. The TSProf is an engineering masterpiece for the price they are asking and will last way past your lifetime. From what I can see it's built with almost military precision and is typically robust, just like the people of the country it comes from. I think it's an absolute delight to look at and see in action. I plan to get one soon and see for myself first hand how good this system really is. Possibly mine will be the first in Australia. Thanks Wranglerstar for your great video.

i think the price would go only higher. Check the same sharpening system from "Kazak", it's way more expensive. The only reason why "Kazak" is much expensive than this, is that it was longer time on the market, and I think it was almost first sharpening system with rotatable mechanism. They call this kind of sharpeners "Kazak like sharpening systems". This price is very affordable price for the quality, there are knives that costs 300-500$, and it's not a custom knives, they are serial or "mid-tech" knives.

Ha ha, I was thinking the same thing the whole time, as he kept complaining that his Cutco knife hadn't been sharp since after the first year he bought it. That is a $150 knife and he doesn't know he can send it in to get serviced for free.

Why? I found a tool that is exceptional for a great price why wouldn't I share it? I didn't receive one penny for endorsing this sharpener. Where is the Sales Man in that?

FYI, Cutco will sharpen their knives for free for life. Just need to send them to the factory and they will send them back as shap as the day they were bought. My mother has had her Cutco set for about 20 years and she sends them back for sharpening every 3-4 years or so.

Nothing wrong with over-engineering. If something is precisely engineered to last just long enough to be profitable, then we wouldn't have any of the high-quality items that last generations. Razors would all go dull within 10 years, cars would break down in 15, houses (in the US, this already happens) need to be replaced every 50. Hell, London's sewage system would be broken down in the 1950's if Joseph Bazalgette hadn't intentionally over-engineered the pipes to handle twice the expected water supply.

For anyone watching this now, the current price for the "wranglerstar" kit is $502USD they were (when i ordered mine) a little behind on manufacturing took a little over a month to come in, to be fair they told me this in advance before they ever even asked for my shipping or billing info. I decided to go ahead and order in advance and pay in advance because i knew at the time i could afford it. Got the sharpening system in yesterday took a minute to get setup a few things needed adjusting but no issues what so ever i absolutely love it. Paul Techman if you read this you make a great product that i will have for years to come referring this to a few local businesses that i know offer knife sharpening. Going back to my "review" on the product its quite a big bigger than it looks in this video it takes up a good bit of space but it feels extremely heavy duty. Just the first few minutes of use and i can already tell this product will last decades.
