Your videos are the BEST! Your first video on the TSPROF inspired me to try my hand at sharpening using a fixed angle system. I’ve always used a honing rod and purchased a beginners system, choosing the Lansky 5 stone set up and have had okay luck so far, I just wanted to get my hands a little dirty with it before investing in the big dog. Thank you for taking so much care and having so much attention to detail in your workshop videos, it’s nice to see someone give so much genuine respect to other fabricators and tradesman. Keep it up!

That sharpener looks amazing. I have been using an Edge Pro sharpener for years, and it has a very similar design. The big difference is that the Edge Pro sharpeners don't clamp the knife. You are to hold the knife and are able to move the knife as you sharpen it. It's nice because you can turn the knife around the tip and keep the grind more even around the corner, and there is literally no limit to the length of knife that it will sharpen, even a sword could be sharpened with it. The clamp system and detent on the rotating mechanism on the Trsprof looks like a dream to work with. I also love the idea of using the digital protractor, I will definitely use that trick on the next knife I sharpen.

@impactofredemption for the machining, quality of the pieces etc. that price is reasonable. I'm not saying it's the best value for people, but the stuff seems to be really nice quality and there is a lot of different smaller pieces. And while you can get away cheaper with stones, the price for what you get doesn't seem unreasonable.

I wish my kitchen knives were sharp enough to split paper. We'd eat a lot more paper at meal time if we could only slice it more effortlessly. Unfortunately I never sharpen my kitchen knives and they're only sharp enough to slice, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, peppers, steak, cheese, bread, etc... all the crappy stuff.

I listen to the nay sayers about sponsorships and product placement yada yada and it drives me nuts. Your channel brings value to our lives. Thank you. Btw, ive noticed the increased bevel size at the tip and i think it has more to do with increased thickness at the spine than the slight change in angle. My opinion.

JCP there is a different clamp for scissors. It holds the blades of the scissors more vertical. That way you can actually match the factory bevel. Then the process is the same. I find it works better to only cut on the push stroke with scissors.

Just a tip... mark the sharpening stones on the back side with a marker or better yet a paint pen. I don't know why they don't do this originally, but sure as you don't mark them, you will forget which is which, and that can get frustrating in a hurry. Second tip... always pull/push the leather strops and the glass platen diamond adhesive strips away from the sharpened edge, never towards the sharpened edge. Pulling or pushing one towards the sharpened edge will always cut the strop or strip.

I'm trying to think how they could make something to compensate for any given blade shape. Even so though, with a arm that long, being so far from the center pivot, I would imagine any given knife having less than .25 degrees of change from heel to point. If that at all, I would imagine most Kitchen like knives having a curve that almost matches the radius of the arm, if that makes any sense. On my Wicked Edge, that has a much shorter arm length than this, I often get less than .4 of a degree across the edge, which is small enough that any irregularity in the grind of the knife is more noticeable.

It's good to count strokes but you should check if there is burr on edge. When you can feel burr at whole length of knife edge than its time to do other side with equal number of strokes. Check for burr again. If there is burr it's time to use fine stone. For regularly sharpened knifes there is no need for 1st stone to be below 800-1000. My 2nd stone in that case is 6000 but it is not required. 1000 can make very sharp edge good enough for every day use. If there is some damage or you want to change angle than you need to start with some coarse stone like 300, more or less.

My daddy used to carry an old round whetstone in his fishing creel. He used it for everything, axes, fishing gear, hunting and pocket knives and kitchen knives. He taught me how to sharpen with that thing that he got when he was discharged in 1946 and taght me how to sharpen with it. I have tried all those things, and always go back to a cheap carbo whatever stone, or maybe the coarse stone on my Smith's Tri hone. and finish it with a fine diamond stone. I have been doing that for the 40 years I have lived on my own and it works best for me. I make great paper shavers, but don't want to dull my knife or lose any of my arm hair. Been losing too much hair on my head. heh heh heh. Sometomes they ways of the old Oregon country boy work best.

Hey Cody. The angle deviation is unavoidable unless the knife has the same radius as the throw of the sharpening arm but it can be reduced by using a reference point on the sharpening arm against the knife edge before the knife is clamped into its final position. That will allow you to clamp the knife in a position that provides the minimum angle deviation on the edge of the blade

Truly like this system it is a thing of artistic beauty and engineering quality. It is just beautiful to look at and it's construction is truly magnificent. Somehow some way I have to get one for myself as I a knife buff. And I can't stand a dull knife. You got to be able to shave with it or back to sharpening it until you can. May from my old meat cutting days. As dull knives cause greater number of knife accidents verses a truly sharp one because you don't have to push or pull as much with a firm but not rigid wrist or grip. I was trained to sharpen knives by hand and eye got really good at it, but this would allow much more control with less work and greater consistency all along the lenght of the blade repeatedly. On every knife style. What about chisel or planner blades will it sharpen them? Are the stones the kit comes with water stones or oil stones? I saw they have diamond stones and other stones also various rogue and strops in product manual online. As far a knife blade to sharpen a badly nicked Kitchen blade. All the way to honing with the compound sticks. The shallower angle at the tip allows more strength to be kept at the tip to keep from breaking. Sharpening experience once you in the rhythm must almost feel like being in a zen state. I could see that happening very easy with this system, almost therapeutic or meditative joy and peacefulness.

The angle on the two jaws was also different. Probably depends on how short the knife is from spine to edge to which jaw you would want to use.
