Hollywood screen actress Audrey Hepburn often talked about the post Market Garden Dutch famine in interviews and recalled how desperate folk - including her teenage self - would try to make bread using ground tulip and daffodil bulbs, often with disastrous results.

Really sorry to hear about Nobby, lets all hope for a speedy recovery. Been to Arnhem a few times, the military cementaries are a sobering sight. Tended by Dutch children, who have followed their parents and grandparents in kooking after the grave of their "Tommy". Wonderful peolpe and a wonderful country. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

When I was with 2CS Regt RLC , back in the day, the Sgt's mess went to Arnhem for a battlefield tour.. we walked the battle grounds that those heroes fought on, a most humbling experience. We will remember them.

I visited Arnhem pre covid. One of my late fathers friends was involved there i believe. His name was Peter Macphee who came from the Island of Skye. Peter was thrown in at the deep end. First the Italian Campaign, followed by D-day then Market Garden. Peter was a paratrooper during his service in WW2. He survived it all. Ending his days as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police in London.

To this day, people still tend to the graves of allied soldiers killed during Market Garden School. Children were originally given a grave to tend as time passed many passed the grave onto their children and grandchildren They were known as The Flower Children

What a great story. It really does show the respect and gratitude they felt and showed to those who fought to free them. 🫡

Keith and Tracer Round, that's an outstanding amount you both manage to raise 👏. That's for this tribute to the fallen.

Nice one Keith. Congratulations on your charity total. I had the privilege, as a teen, to meet some Arnhem boys in the late 1970s. Scarily, they were then younger than I am today. The nonsensical myth that Op Market Garden was a 90% success apparently originated from a comment made by Montgomery that 30 Corps had made it nine-tenths of the way to Arnhem to relieve 1 AB Div.

Hey Keith 👊🏼 Such a great total, very well done to both of you. So happy for Scotties... ♥️ 🇬🇧 Op. Market Garden was a good concept overall, but let down by a series of unfortunate events... All brave men 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 🇳🇱 🇵🇱 🇨🇦 🇧🇪 A lovely tribute 🥃 They gave their tomorrow, for our today, and like you, I'll also be watching: A Bridge To Far - tonight. God bless 'em all... 🙏🕯🪽

during the years we have tab'd around most of the villages and actual glider / parachute landing areas because we are not so far from that whole operation scenario, very interesting, i still recall my dutch father-in-law was once showing me remains of bullet holes above his front door where their village was right near one zone during those times....they had to evacuate tout suite but when they returned they started all over again with just the walls of the same house even all the wooden floors ( and furniture, carpets, bicycle ) had been nicked by the germans.....couple of days ago we were out cycling and a group of planes came over towards the yearly remembrance parachute site but unfortunately the cloud layer meant we failed to see them but you could surely hear all the motors droning just like i myself had experienced during the 50's ( not jets )

A Dutch colleague of mine tells me it’s a standing joke with the Germans: “Can we please have our bicycles back”?

A Bridge Too Far is a book by Cornelius Ryan. Read it twice... The film is brilliant but read the book. It's one of those you can't put down...

OP Market Garden will go down in history as a failure. The bravery & determination of those involved will go down as a triumph! I have met many Veterans. I have had the honour to jump into the area. The respect by the Dutch people is tear jerking. To all involved. Respect. To those that fell and those no longer with us. Until the Final RV.🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡

It was yours and Tracers boots on the ground that fired the motivation and inspired people to donate. It was yours and Tracers boots on the ground that dug deep and completed the challenge despite both carrying injuries. Again, very well done to you both, and thank you for your channel. It represents all that is good in social media and is a haven from all the toxicity and negativity that is prevalent online . 🫡
