I'm in a very difficult position. My husband has Alzheimer's, and lives in a facility. He still recognizes me, but no one else. I visit him 4-5 days a week.

Given the nature of deep relationships, I prefer to not refer to anyone as my " [number] anything". Pragmatically speaking, my deceased husband wasn't my "chapter one." I prefer to say my current partner (who is also widowed) and I are writing a brand new love story. Certainly there are footnotes and an index, but we both deserve opportunities and all-encompassing language which we would have received even if we had met in our 20's. Chapter Two begs the question "what happened in the past" and invites resurrection of past people. Regurgitating memories as an integral part of defining current love story? No thanks. I do admire your tenacity & practical advice. Just a difference in semantics between us. 😊
